We sailed on the southbound cruise of the Statendam and enjoyed it very much. We have sailed HAL 5 times. The ship had a few blemishes but nothing serious. We enjoyed the food, our room and of course, the crew. Especially enjoyed our steward Hakim, our waiters, Hance and Aga, wine steward, Jose and head waiter Dwe. They anticipated our every needs. They are why we sail HAL. We did encounter some rough seas one nite and there was damage to china and glasses but all cleared up by 6 a.m. Very professional. We had a beautiful day at Glacier Bay and of course, had some rain at a few ports. We docked at the cute town of Haines and took a tour up to Skagway where we boarded a bus that went up to White Pass. This was a ship's tour and was worth it. We booked a Dolly Varden on our own to Saxman at Ketchikan and are cautioning everyone about this. Those who did the exact tour via the ship had a great time. Ours was not enjoyable. Leaving Vancouver was horrid. Pay the extra money for the express exit if you can. We did land tour #14 prior to the cruise and had a clear day for Discovery Boat and Gold Dredge tour. 2 nights in Denali were cold and rainy with snow in the park. We did see moose and 6 WOLVES! Took a long bus ride to Seward for the cruise. The bus was very comfortable and the driver, who is a biology teacher, gave us a great, informative tour with lunch. The road to Seward was especially scenic.
