Our family of 5 just returned from a 7-Day, 6-Night NCL cruise to the Bahamas. When booking the trip my husband and I decided to reserve a penthouse suite along with a inside cabin directly across the hall. This was the best decision we could have made. The difference in cost of a suite from the balcony room we had first considered was about a thousand dollars, the difference in the service we received was phenomenal. I'm certain that we would have been very disappointed travelers had we not booked the upgrade.

When you reserve a suite on the Spirit you are considered a VIP and have a concierge and butler available to you throughout the cruise. From our arrival in New York to our return, we were treated like royalty. Our concierge met us at the pier and booked our dinner reservations for that evening and gave us a form to make our request with her for the rest of the week. While most passengers cannot book in advance at the regular or specialty restaurants, we were able to get all our meals booked ahead and then adjust them as necessary during the week. This meant we were able to get reservations at each of the restaurants we wanted and never had a wait time. NCL also had flowers, fruit, and champagne waiting in our room, and an amenity arrived each afternoon from senior staff on the Spirit. We also had priority disembarkation at each of our ports which meant no waiting in lines to head off the ship and we were invited to a private cocktail party with the Captain. The butler handled all of our room service requests (which were frequent) and was attentive and friendly. Embarkation was smooth. While the New York port is in need of upgrade, we were able to wait in the VIP area and were welcomed onboard very early, at about 11:15am. Having read several of the ship reviews, we headed right to Windows and had a lovely lunch (they only serve until 2pm) before exploring the ship.

Our cabins were wonderful. The suite was roomy with a couch, 2 chairs, & small dining table. The bathroom was beautiful with a jacuzzi and shower overlooking the sea. Queen size bed was comfortable. The balcony had upgraded furniture and we utilized it throughout our trip. As the ship was full (2400+ passengers) and we prefer to be away from crowds, we spent a lot of time in the room. The inside cabin across the hall was great for 2 of my children. They had plenty of space to sleep and spent their awake time with us in the suite.
