Just want to start by saying this was a great cruise for my family. Alaska is too beautiful for words to describe. Embarkation on Sat was no problem. We dropped our bags off early at the terminal and then we went to grab a bit of lunch on the pier nearby. We waited a while before getting on the ship in order to avoid the crowds of people anxious to get on as quickly as possible. There was a bit of a line when we got there but it moved along quite well. Once on the ship we headed to find our rooms and were pleasantly surprised to find our luggage was already there. I was able to start unpacking immediately. The room was nice. We had a balcony room on floor 9. I had plenty of room for my families clothes which included 2 adults and 2 children. We had adjoining rooms with my inlaws and my parents were on the otherside. We had our steward open up the balconies between us all and this was very nice. It made it seem like we had a large balcony. We spent a lot of time out on the balcony it was well worth the extra money in my opinion.
The ship was clean and we found the service to be great. The staff was constantly playing with my children (3-1/2 yr old and 8 month old). There are only a very few negative points I have. One was there were not many activities scheduled during sea days or sailing times for people who did not gamble or drink. We hit the trivia and played a lot of cards which was enjoyable with the large windows in the card room. Also I was not impressed with the entertainment. Nothing great but again all in my opinion.
In Ketchikan, my husband, son, father and father in-law chartered a private boat for fishing. They had a great trip. The rest of us went to the lumberjack show and it was good. We then just walked around the town. I felt like I was rushed and would have like to have had more time not only in this port but all the ports. It did rain here and the light weight rain jackets we carried were a blessing.
