We sailed on June 16 from NY on an air-cruise package from NCL. A NCL rep was waiting for us at La Guardia baggage claim. Everything was a breeze. We were at the pier by 2pm and in our cabin by 2:45! The line appeared long upon arrival, but moved rapidly. Freestyle cruising was a relaxing change from the Carnival cruise we enjoyed previously. We made dinner reservations for the first two nights upon boarding and then explored the ship. Saturday evening- Le Bistro. Fantastic service and superb meal. One tip-ask for regular water to avoid being charged for bottled or mineral water at dinner. The chocolate fondue for dessert is delicious! Sunday- Day at sea was great. Breakfast at Venetian was peaceful and of better quality than the Garden Cafe buffet. Look for dolphins behind the boat! Lobster night in Aqua was decent. Monday- Enjoyed massages at the spa before reaching the Bahamas. Fantastic and reasonably priced!! Dolphin Encounter in Nassau was worth every penny. Dinner at Salsa was delicious... the best golden margaritas ever! Tuesday- First tender to Great Stirrup Cay. Loved parasailing and enjoyed the beautiful beach. Went back to the Dawn for a late lunch and enjoyed the pool and hot tub without the crowds! Wait for disembarkation on the bench seats in the hallway by Le Bistro. It is a straight shot down the steps to the gangways! No crowd, no standing around in stairwells. Had dinner at Cagney's late that night. Delicious! Have a martini at the Star Bar first, very romantic! Wednesday- Day at sea. Enjoyed the pool deck, played some shuffleboard and bingo. Enjoyed the adults only hot tub at the front of the ship. Dinner at Bamboo was terrific! Thursday- Bermuda was lovely! Took a bus tour to Horseshoe Beach. Enjoyed the ride and driver information as much as the amazing pink sand. Went back and took advantage of an empty ship again. Poolside seats and pina coladas. It was like we had the ship to ourselves! Dinner at Salsa again, we enjoyed it so much the first time and NO COVER! Friday- At sea. Weather was windy and cool, so we stayed indoors. Lost at bingo, but had some luck with the slots. Dinner at Bamboo again. You have to try to squid appetizer and banana spring rolls for dessert! Saturday- Did not want to return to reality, but disembarkation was amazingly efficient. No complaints. Freestyle is great! We had our doubts after reading some of the reviews on this website. The surcharge restaurant meals were well worth the extra expense. Alcohol was reasonably priced. Service was very good. Garden Cafe or Bimini Grill was convenient and tasty for lunch each day. The entertainment was good. We went to most evening shows in the Stardust. Our favorites were Band on the Run and Second City. The Dawn is beautiful and immaculate. The crew were friendly and hard working. Matt Baker (wikki wikki waa) and his staff were lots of fun. A cruise is as relaxing or as busy as you want it to be. NCL makes it easy to set your own pace and enjoy yourself. We certainly did!
