Sail Date: Jun 2007

We went on the June 10 sailing from Vancouver. Overall it was an absolutely marvelous experience. Our embarkation was a little rocky. The Infinity sailed from Ballantyne, not Canada Place and the port was a little difficult to find. We flew into Vancouver the Wednesday before our cruise in order to accustom ourselves to west coast time and make sure our luggage arrived before we sailed. This was a good thing because only half our luggage arrived on time. The rest was delivered the next morning to our hotel. Not a disaster, but it would have been if we had flown in and gone directly to the ship. We rented a car in Vancouver and were able to take in Victoria where we saw Buchart Gardens, Whistler(the site of the 2010 Olympics, and all the interesting quaint neighborhoods in Vancouver. Returning the rental car and finding the port were difficult as signage is either poor or nonexistent. Once we were there, however, everyone was lovely. Since we were Concierge Class we had priority boarding which was especially appreciated considering how frazzled we were. The champagne they offered as soon as we were on board started us relaxing right away. Our luggage was quickly brought to our room where champagne, fruit, and flowers awaited. Not even out of port and we felt as if we were pampered. The staff on the Infinity was wonderful. Our room steward was always around, helpful, and friendly. The first night the food was not wonderful, but every night after that it was. I ordered the fist the first night and it was not cooked properly, but my husband's was. I asked for the vegetarian menu and ordered something off of that and it was fine. For the rest of the cruise our waiter always brought me both the regular menu and the vegetarian menu. We had breakfast in our room a couple of times which was fine. We also enjoyed lunch in the spa cafe which was a nice light alternative. There were so many dining choices, I needed a longer cruise to sample them all.The best is the specialty restaurant SS United States. Definitely do this. The food and service is amazing. We also had high tea at the SS United States which was lovely. Just be aware that they start out by offering We had chamber of commerce weather for our ports. In Ketchikan we did a boat ride/nature walk that was spectacular with interesting informative guides. DON'T get the shopping coupon book from the boat. It is a rip. Do take the free guide available at embarkation. Hubbard Glacier was magnificent, although conditions prevented us from getting close. The staff had blankets for anyone who needed them and sold hot chocolate with Baileys while we were viewing the glacier. At each port there was free hot chocolate by the pier--definitely a nice touch. At Juneau and Icy Strait we tendered off and since we were concierge class, we had priority. At Juneau we took a bus to the Mendenhall Glacier, hiked and took wonderful pictures. Later we took a helicopter ride over some magnificent glaciers and spent 15 minutes walking on one. Another must do. After we had the best grilled halibut ever at the Hanger restaurant and then had drinks at the Red Dog Saloon. This was great fun. Thank goodness that night was casual night because no one was interested in getting dressed up. Icy Strait was a little hokey, but we did see a whale while we were waiting for our tender. Don't do the bear watching tour if you go in June because the odds are not good for seeing one. Whale watching is a better bet. The entertainment on board was great. The comedians were good, the singers and dancers were very talented. The Martini bar was our favorite place to hang out. Friendly bartenders and some of the best martinis I ever consumed. We also tried the rezoul at the spa which is a special area for couples. I was not happy here. We mentioned that we had never done this before, but they never explained how the showers worked or what all the different products were for. The attendant was definitely snippy and not like the rest of the staff. All in all this vacation was marvelous. Our cabin was on the Sky Deck at the aft of the ship. We had plenty of room and the terry cloth robes that are provided are a nice touch.
