This is for the Southbound Cruise We arrived in Anchorage (from San Diego)by noon and embarked on the only downside of the trip - the exhausting 3hr. bus trip to Seward. It was a gorgeous trip, but long and followed by a delay due to the arrival of several buses at the same time. They had us circle the tiny town of Seward several times and kill an extra 30 minutes before allowing our bus to pull in at the check-in point. The check-in line moved quickly and the trip proceeded smoothly from that point.
We enjoyed our dinner at the early seating, where we were joined by two other members of our family who had joined the cruise from different parts of California. We awakened the next morning to a blanket of pale turquoise-Glacier Bay. The sky, the bay and the glacier were monochromatic and it was wondrous to see....very surreal and like being on another planet.
The glacier thundered and pieces fell into the bay with a slow motion crash, creating a large ripple on the bay. We stayed on the balcony (which I highly recommend getting) and watched for the entire time the ship stayed there. As cold as it was, and I don't recall the temperature, it was exhilarating!
