Traveled with children

I traveled with my 2 kids age 10 and 2 1/2 and my sister and her 2 kids age 15 and 9. We had an ocean view room and they were adjoining on the Riviera Deck. We live near the port so we got dropped off. We arrived at 11:30 and dropped off our bags and went to the terminal to check in. Everything went smooth till the end when they directed us to a line that ended up to nowhere and we didn't know where to go. We stood there for about 10 minutes looking around trying to figure out where to go and then finally flagged down an employee who stated they didn't know how the line ended like that and finally showed us where to go. Other than that embarkation was smooth. We went up to Lido deck to the Red Sail restaurant and ate lunch and me & my sis got one of the famous Reuben sandwiches. The kids tried the pizza and fish and chips which they completely enjoyed. We finished and went to our room to drop off our bags. I had trouble opening my door because it was very sensitive so a room stewart (not ours) helped me and showed me I had to put the card in real slow. My sisters room next door was easy to open. The rooms were very nice. I was supposed to travel with a 4th person but they canceled at the last moment and we had a room that slept 4. My DD wanted to sleep in the pull down bunk so later we asked the room stewart to pull it down and she loved sleeping up there. I asked him to push the beds together and empty the fridge which he later did when we went dinner. We wondered around the ship a bit then went to the muster drill. At muster they put on bracelets on all the kids to know where their muster station is if they weren't with us (camp carnival) and needless to say, after 5 minutes my son took his off. Everytime they tried to reapply it throughout the cruise, he immediately took it off. He just didn't like that on his wrist! Anyway, after the muster drill we went and met all our cruise critic member friend's from the roll call at the aft pool bar on lido deck. It was a great turn out and my sister's son met his good friend for the duration of the trip. Then we had to go back to the room and get ready for dinner. We had the 5:45 dinner seating and we had asked for 6:15 but as it turns about we liked the 5:45 dinner seating just fine. It was perfect for the kids as we ended up spending 1 1/2 hours at dinner! By the time we were done it was about time for the 2 1/2 year old to go to bed. We walked around the ship some more and then let the little one go to bed and me and my sis's son went to play bingo and watch the R rated comedy show. The first night comedy show was the funniest out of the whole cruise. The other comedy shows didn't even compare to the one on the first night. Hilarious!! Then we went to bed because we knew we had the Bahamas the next morning. In the morning, we woke up and went to the dining room for breakfast. We did this every morning ont the cruise because we liked the service and the food. We liked having a relaxing breakfast and would rather do that than hurry up and grab stuff from the buffet. We didn't book any shore excursions through Carnival, we did research and planned our own stuff to do. So, we weren't in any hurry to get off so we waited till we thought it was less crowded to get off. When the rush was over, we got off and went and bought tickets for the water taxi (I think it was $8.00 per person round trip). We got on and had a tour from the crew as we went along and finally got off after tipping the tour guide and went to Atlantis to look around. Atlantis was beautiful! We only went to the lobby through the casino and checked out the aquarium then we went to find a beach. We followed some signs that seemed to take us all the way around a block and finally ended up at a public beach. There was a bar by a private resort and I asked for a bathroom so me and DD could change into our suits. He said we could use the bathroom up by the resort (which usually isn't allowed) and we tipped him happily when we were done changing. The beach was absolutely beautiful with crystal clear water. The sand was white and powdery which stuck to your skin. They offered jet skiing and parasailing but we were waiting for St Maarten for that. There were plenty of venders, a couple massage tables and a drink stand. I think when we walked up to the entrance to the beach, a taxi guy standing around tried to sell us illegal drugs but I just said no thanks and kept walking. So beware. Anyway, we then walked back to the water taxi, got on and got another tour and tipped again and got off. We walked around straw market and shopped a little and then walked next door to Senor Frogs which I heard so much about and had a delicious strawberry margarita. It was a fun party atmosphere with 3 drunk girls singing with the music on the stage and the DJ making fun of them and laughing with them. Then went back to the ship and got showers and changed for dinner. Our head waitress Tatianna was very experienced and great. She seemed a little over worked because service was a bit slow because she was SO BUSY but we weren't in any hurry because we were on a relaxing vacation so we didn't mind. The assistant waiter Jefferson was THE BEST!! The kids loved him and he was very friendly and talkative. He did a great job with the kids and he kept trying to get my DS to eat and cut up his food for him and everything!! We had a great table for 6 in the Platinum dining room by a window! It was perfect!!! We all took turns sitting by the window each night. Oh, I forgot to mention, I didn't take my DS off the boat in the Bahamas and he cried for me the whole time I was off the ship and I didn't know it because the pagers they give you do not work off the ship so when I returned to pick him up he was not happy and didn't want to really go to camp carnival the rest of the cruise which made it a little hard to have a good time relaxing with a 2 year old around. Don't get me wrong, my son is a very happy, confident boy who talks to everybody and never has a problem when I leave him so I don't understand why this happened and I did talk to the purser's desk after this happened and the camp carnival staff did try to help him more to want to stay but he really didn't start to like it till the last day. This night was formal night and we really enjoyed the Lobster and had fun dressing up and getting our pics taken.

The 1st sea day we just wondered the ship and got to know where everything was. Me and my sis did go to tea time which I heard was really good and we enjoyed that alot. I tried the orange tea and it was excellent! The 3rd day was St. Thomas and again we weren't in any hurry to get off the ship. We had our leisurely breakfast and went back to our room to pack for our plans for the day. We all got off this time and when we did it was pouring rain. I packed some ponchos that I bought from the dollar store so me and dd and ds were dry put my sis and her ds's were soaked. We got a taxi for $8.00 each one way to Meghan's Bay because we thought by the time we got there the rain would stop but it didn't. Meghan's bay was beautiful though. The water was nice and calm and clear. We all still went in the water even though we were kinda cold from no sunshine but we tried to make the best of it. There was a restaurant/bar there and I had an awesome banana colada. My DD got her hair braided here too. When we were done at the beach, we took a taxi ($8.00 per person 1 way) back toward the ship, we walked around the shops and then back to the ship to change for dinner. The 4th day at St. Maartin was by far my favorite port. The weather was great! We got off and went to the taxi stand to get a taxi (8.00 per person again) to Orient Beach and got dropped off at Bikini Beach part of it. I went to the rental place and asked about parasailing. Me and DD got on a jet ski and they took us out to the boat and we got hooked up and in the air we went! It was amazing! I paid ninety dollars for both of us to go together. Then we rented 2 chairs and an umbrella and enjoyed our day laying in the sun drinking banana coladas while the kids played in the water. There was topless older women and 1 older man walking around nude even though it was not the nude part. There was alot of vendors walking around selling stuff also. The water was absolutely gorgeous! Finally we got a taxi and had him drop us downtown to shop and walk back to the ship. Then as usual we changed and went to dinner. The next 2 sea days were really uneventful. We shopped on the ship and went to the sales and played a bit in the casino. One night was the midnight buffet which we went to when we left one of the boring comedy shows. It was hard to find chairs to lay out to like other people mentioned. The service all over the ship was excellent. Our room stewart was very handsome and nice and did an excellent job. I forget his name because it was different but it started w/ an M. Everywhere we went my DS felt like a star because all the employees wanted to give him five or just to talk to him. They all learned his name rather quickly. The ship was extremely clean. Our room was great. My son loved sitting in the window and looking out. The only downfall was my 2 1/2 year old DS didn't like camp carnival as much as I thought he would. And I also thought that alot of the public areas on the ship were way too crowded. Overall on our cruise we had an incredible time and we are already making plans to go next year on the western itinerary. I give Carnival 5 stars and would definitely go again!!!
