BACKGROUND: We like cruising, had lived in Panama, and decided that the Radiance of the Seas was the way to re-visit Panama in a relaxing manner. We flew to Fort Lauderdale the day before the cruise and stayed in the Embassy Suites near the port. They have a "cruise deal" where they take you to the pier as part of the room cost. Saturday morning saw dozens of people checking in and out from the 7 cruise ships in port; however, the hotel did a good job getting us to the ship as scheduled.

EMBARKATION: We got to the pier at 12:20 and found a rather long line. The porters took the baggage quickly and proceeded to put the bags on the carts. The tie up in the line was that only one of the metal detector/x-ray lines was working. RCCL employees were walking around trying to keep everything moving and were very efficient. After we got through security, everything moved very smoothly. Our set sail pass worked and we had our cards within a few minutes. We went through the gangway and got our pictures taken and went on board. Very fast - very efficient. Our cabin was ready for occupancy a few minutes after we boarded so we dropped off our carry on bags and went for a walk around the ship.

CABIN: We had a Junior Suite on the tenth deck. Our cabin steward was Dennis. He did a great job the entire cruise. It was amazing how he got everything done without being intrusive. It was a pleasure talking to him. It was obvious that he was proud to be a member of the crew and liked his job. We signed up for another cruise while on the Radiance and got the same suite so that we could have him as our steward again. The mattresses and linens were new and very comfortable. The room was spotless and well maintained.
