We booked this cruise the end of December 2006 at a deeply discounted rate for a balcony stateroom on deck 7. This was our first cruise with RCI and first Transatlantic previously cruised with Princess, HAL, Sunquest and Windjammer.
The pier side check in was total disorganized with very rude baggage handlers, once you got past that embarkation was smooth and took about 20 minutes and we were on board headed for the Windjammer for lunch. As always, sail away was full of excitement when you hear those long blast from the horn bidding the port farewell, gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. The passengers consisted of US, Can. and European therefore all announcements were repeated three times in English, Spanish and German. I must say that throughout this voyage, I found many of the passengers to be rude and pushy. Apparently in other countries you do not have to wait in line, you just push your way in and ignore everyone behind. This started to weigh on many cruisers and within a few days it was not uncommon to hear shouts of anger from those whom generally are courteous.
First day at sea was chilly and not many people sun bathing, a good time to explore the ship. Arrived in Bermuda Monday evening too late to go exploring. Some of the crew went ashore at night and were followed back to the ship and a brawl took place with some locals resulting in one crew member to be admitted to the hospital for serious internal injury.
