I have been on more than 20 cruises, about half just my wife and the rest with my children (all under 16 now.) All in all, I have been very satisfied with the crusies we have taken.
After reading reviews about the Silver Galapogos, I went in with relatively low expections about the quality of the ship and high expectations about the service. I will say that ship met my expectations. Let me start with the possitives. The staff were eager to help and friendly. The naturalists really know their stuff and were very knowledgable.
For the negatives, the power generator is turned off at night to save on fuel and the air conditioning only cools the room to about 85 degrees. When we talk with the staff we were first told that this was due to new regulations and there was nothing that could be done and then we were told that it was due to mechanical failure. The food was even worse than expected given the reviews. Most meals were served cold and took a very long time. Despite the fact that the ship was not full, the staff seemed overwhelmed. My 10 year old missed two days of exploring as a result of a stomach bug he picked up on day 3. The medical staff was helpful but diasspointing nonetheless.
The room is small but as expected. It was hard to tell that the ship had been recently updated. We complained of the smell of mildew, but nothing could be done to fix it.
