we are avid cruisers and have sailed on mainly NCL, RCCL and Celebrity. We also have individual cruises on Princess and Holland America. We usually choose the cruise for it's itinerary, We have never had a bad cruise on any line although each line is somewhat different. We had been leery of cruising Carnival, but decided it a shot as we have also heard good things from fellow cruisers. We had another great cruise. The Splendor gets some harsh reviews about the décor. It is very pink. However, I think they were going for a 50's retro look. We had no issue with the décor. Our forward cabin on deck nine was great, we booked very late and had few options, but this worked out well. the cabin was good size and on the same deck as the buffet. We never use the elevator so this was nice for quick trips in the morning for coffee and muffins. Our only cabin complaint was the door opening onto the balcony rather than a slider. It is awkward and got annoying as the week progressed. Cabin steward Alfred was great!! We found the entertainment excellent, especially the comedians and the Latin Trio Band. They should be playing larger and more varied venues. Food was basically good. Our only complaint was variety at buffet in the evening. There are limited options in that time frame. We only ate in the dining for the sea day brunches which were excellent. No specialty restaurants. Pizza is best on any cruise and the pizza maker is the hardest working guy on the ship. The entire staff was pleasant and usually addressed us by name. Some posters complained about weak drinks, ours were great and I saw most of them made. We had Carnival transfers to Ft Lauderdale and this was our only real problem. They were okay for getting to the ship, but we were very unhappy with our departure transfer. The driver had 3 stops ate the airport terminals. He gave incorrect info at each stop. He even left a bag at stop two and was resistant to go check it before leaving second stop. We finally convinced him to go check it and sure enough it was, he had mistakenly put it out. He told us we were stop three for Jet Blue. I went up and told him we were stop two. He refused to pull over and we had to drag our bags back to stop two from stop three. Thank god we are healthy. We are in our sixties and it was nice having the full spectrum of age groups. the younger groups added some life and energy to the ship. In summary, we would sail Carnival again in a heartbeat.
