We chose this cruise based on all the wonderful reviews we read on Cruise Critic last year, the first year for the Louis Cristal Cuban cruise. Our anticipation level was so high that we wondered if we would be disappointed. I am very happy to say that we were not.
This is first and foremost a destination cruise. The ship is comfortably modest, the crew amongst the friendliest we have ever cruised with. Food is adequate. The shows are excellent -especially if you want the entertainment to reflect that this cruise is all about Cuba. I have always felt that entertainment on most cruise ships is too generic.
Before we sailed we spent a week in a Casa Particular (private home) in Vedado, Havana. It gave us a unique insight into the island, it's strengths and it's problems. By the time our departure date arrived, we wanted to see more, and this cruise allowed us to follow the course of history, after learning so much in Havana's many excellent museums. After learning a lot about Cuba's heroes, we went to Biran to see where Castro was born and raised. We left with a greater understanding of who Fidel was and how the Revolution came to be.
