A fabulous holiday! But a few minor signs of cutbacks.

We booked WELL in advance to be sure of getting adjoining cabins with our friends on this particular cruise that included both our birthdays. This was our third cruise on The Eclipse and she still looks pretty damn good, clean and sparkling! We flew with Virgin for the first time in MANY years and were extremely pleased with the overall experience in our Premier Economy seats. (Well it was a special holiday). As predicted Miami airport was hideous! My wife was in a wheelchair so we were through in no time but our friends took an hour and a half to get through Immigration! Unacceptable USA!

Over night at the Marriott Miami Airport was a good start to the holiday followed by an extremely easy boarding experience on the Sunday morning. Access to the cabin was delayed (as usual) until early p.m. which we were prepared for of course. The cabin was situated way back on deck seven which was great for dining but not so good for the theatre which is at the very front of the vessel. Lesson learned. We knew exactly what to expect cabin wise but were, for some reason, more aware of the real lack of storage space on this ship. A reasonable sized wardrobe is adequate for a two week vacation but there are no proper bedside cupboards! Just a strange tiny shelf unit that isn't a uniform shape and gives SO little space for 'stuff' like glasses, pills, a drink etc. The over-the-bed cupboards are OK for small items but not really much use for clothing like tops, T shirts etc. as they are too shallow. The only other storage are four medium sized drawers situated under the LED TV. Hence much of our clothing was left in the cases under the bed. A real pain. Otherwise the cabin was OK.

We took lunch in the Oceanview buffet on deck 14 which had a w i d e choice of food to suit every taste. From Asian to American, Greek to British cuisine. Although not my favourite buffet layout (I much prefer the 'old style' buffet like on The Constellation and Century), it is a bright and clean area with adequate seating (usually) to cope with peak time dining. In the evenings we dined in the Moonlight Sonata dining room on deck four, any-time dining was great as the usual early seating time is 6pm which is a little early for us. We turned up after 7pm and managed to get the same table #540 and waiter every evening! It overlooked the dining room on deck 3 so was perfect.
