I started writing this review over a month ago and just recieved a notice that this ship was of the top 10 in critics review. So now I need to finish this .
We took a 14 day west / east cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam. January 4 through the18-2015. This ship has an out of balance vibration that drove my wife and I crazy. So much so my wife wanted off the ship the first night and never wants to cruise with me again. The lady at the front desk said the problem has been there since it's debut in 2010. She claimed they had engineers look for the problem but couldn't fiquire it out. I spoke to dozens of other quests who were also sickened by the vibration. Talking to other passengers I learned that the Eurodam has the same problem. Two ships I will never board again.
We dropped $18,000 on this cruise with specialty dinners most every night. The vibration gets worst as you move to higher decks. The vibration was so bad the dishes in the Tamarind restaurant were rattling. The vibration wouldn't had been so bad if it were constant but it was on and off like 3 seconds on 1.5 seconds off Most everything eles was out standing other than the late schedules for breakfast and dinner, short shore times. When it say's ship leaves at 4 that means be back on ship at 3 and they put up a sign telling you that.
The cabin was nice. The bed not as comfy as the ones in the deluxe veranda we enjoyed twice on the Zuiderdam. The room attendants were two of the most amazing people I have ever met! But the out of balance on and off vibration was like the vibrating beds at a cheep hotel, less the quarter. It literally drove a wedge between my wife and I as we grew more anxious with each passing day.
