I went solo on the Disney Fantasy for my Presidents' Week vacation and had a wonderful time! This was my third Disney cruise - the other two have been on the Dream - and 5th cruise overall. I have always been a Disney girl and part of a Disney family, so for me, the extra money is worth it for the Disney difference!
I had booked an 8B GTY and was ultimately assigned a 4E - Deluxe Stateroom with Verandah (technically it's classified as a Deluxe Family Stateroom with Verandah, but interior size-wise it is the same as a 5, 6, or 7. The bump-up to a category 4 is the extended verandah.
I love Disney's rotational dining and had requested the rotation that would put me in Animator's Palate on Pirate Night. I'd also requested a solo table. I was granted the first request, but not the second. While Disney generally does a good job matching families (of all types), it does feel like they just lump the solo cruisers together. The guys I was assigned to dine with are perfectly nice people, but they both are just way more conservative than I was comfortable with for the length of the cruise. I had dinner at Palo - the $25 up charge Italian dining room - on Tuesday, but on Wednesday I spoke with the dining room manager and was able to get changed to a solo table, which made things much more comfortable for me at the remaining dinners.
While this cabin is classified as a Deluxe Family Verandah, be aware that size-wise it is the same inside as the Deluxe Verandah - the bump-up in category is due to an extended verandah. It's super nice, but do know that people above you can look down onto the outer portion of your verandah. This cabin would sleep 3 - there is no pull-down bunk, just a queen bed and a sofa bed. It's a few doors down from the entrance from the forward stairs, but not really noisy at all. While I'm perfectly happy cruising without a verandah and generally prefer to be further forward and higher up, I would consider booking this cabin again.
