This was a very different cruise experience for us. This was our first time on such a small ship. In hindsight we should have thought about booking this cruise when we were taking our kids (18 and 20). It seems that this ship is set up for an older crowd. We are in our mid 40s and had a great time. With that being said it was our least favorite RCI ship, but gave us some of the best experiences we have had on a ship. THE PORT: In previous reviews i have seen some very negative reviews of the port and the boarding process. This was NOT the case with us at all. We arrived at the port around 9:40 to beat the crowd. We waited outside the doors until 9:55 and were let inside the terminal building. We went straight to the greeting desks had our photos taken and were sitting in the chairs waiting to board by 10:00. I think we waited there for about 20 mins and they called for boarding. As we booked an owners suite on this cruise we got on board right away. In fact our son was literally the first person on board. We went into the Centrum and bought our drink package and had a cocktail in hand from the R Bar within 10 mins. THE SHIP: The ship is a nice looking ship that has been maintained. You can still tell that the ship is an older ship. We traveled with two groups of 9 and all of us were in agreement that this ship is probably a "Training Ground" for the larger ships. Don't get me wrong, the service overall was wonderful, it just has a general malaise as compared to the other cruises we have taken. Vision is a bit difficult to navigate compared to other ships. At first i thought it was because it was a little more cut up than other ships. After a couple of days I realized that it was due to the placement of the elevators. All of the elevators run perpendicular to the ship compared to every other ship we have been on running parallel to the ship. Vision also has a constant vibration that is more than annoying. I asked the Captain why this was as I had never felt it on another ship. This is due to the fact that Vision does not have Azipods. It is still a shaft driven ship with rudders. This causes a lot of noise and vibration you don't get on other ships. We also had a sewage smell in the common areas more than we ever had on any other cruise we have been on. This may have had something to do with the very rough seas we had on the last 3 days of the cruise. THE CABIN: Our cabin 8001 was amazing. It is an owners suite on the port side right behind the bridge port wing. Every morning during a docking we would go outside to watch the docking process and the officers on the bridge would wave good morning. The room had two televisions and a bathroom the size of and inside stateroom with a jacuzzi tub, a glass shower, and a double sink. Our room steward Antonio was incredible. We also had access to the concierge lounge with MJ who was also amazing. THE STAFF: The Captain of Vision of the Seas is Captain Merek. He is by far the most incredible and personable Captain that we have every sailed with. Every time we saw him he would wave and say "good morning neighbor". He is present around the ship all the time. He even has breakfast in the windjammer to meet with the passengers. We were even fortunate enough to have dinner with him at the Captains table which confirmed my initial take on this Captain. Do not miss the opportunity to go to the welcome back event or the top tier event where the captain will delight you by singing several tunes to include some Bon Jovi. Don't miss it! Our waitstaff Ramone and shunyin were also awesome. It was Shunyin's first contract. She did very well trying to keep up with the madness that i am sure they endure.

******** THIS IS A MUST DO **********Roaton Honduras is a very beautiful place that like most port countries are very poverty stricken. We took the ship booked tour of Gumbalimba park. DO NOT miss this tour. It was so informative and amazing. It was not only our favorite excursion we have ever taken, it was also our kids and my mother in laws favorite. You get some great one on one activity with Iguanas, Macaws, and White faced cappuchion Monkeys. What a cool thing to do!

We stayed in the port shopping area the whole time. Had some great drinks. I have to say that we didn't have any problems in the shopping area, however we did take a stroll outside the safety of the shopping area and I didn't fell safe taking the kids out there so we turned back.

We got on the tram and took it to the 4th stop (downtown). On the way you stop 3 times and get a commercial from each place you stop. On the second stop we were introduced to Raul at Koox hotels. He gave a strong sales pitch to get off the tram early however we did not. He told us as we pulled away that we would be back as we walked by and we were free to come by. He included and additional 5 dollar per person discount if we stopped on the way back. We should have gotten off the tram there. We took it all the way to downtown and wound up walking back to Koox and spending the day there doing the all you can drink package with lunch for $20.00 per person. They also offer massages for $20.00 per hour and have free beach chairs. It was a great time!

We always have drinks and lunch at Mandy's Bar every time we are in port. We have had the same Waitress since our honeymoon. She has been there 22 years. Good times.
