Myself and my wife have just returned from a 28 nights cruise around the Caribbean and down to the Amazon. Prior to us sailing P&O change the itinary by cancelling the cruise up the Orinoco and calling at Cayenne. This meant that we had 3 1/2 days to reach Santerem, at which we spent 10 hours in port, and then 3 1/2 days sailing back to Trinidad. This then meant that out of a 14 night cruise 7 were spent at sea. It was suggested that the entertainment would be increased but this never happened. Their was also discussion on board as to the different levels of compensation that had been given to passengers which did not please everybody.
Also P&O are selling the same cruise for next year, 2016, without a guarantee that you will be sailing up the Orinoco. So beware if you have booked this.
The ship was dirty in parts, mainly on the Promenade and Lido decks with flaking paint on the decks were it had either fallen off the side or had been chipped off by the crew whilst cleaning. One side of the Promenade deck was closed on a couple of sea days for cleaning but this was soon opened as passengers needed somewhere to sit and relax. This should have been organised when we were in port. It seemed as though no planning had gone into this at all. The balconies were a disgrace with what seemed dirty matting on the floor as well as again flaking paint and rust. It was annouced by the Captains regulary about hygiene and the spread of the norovirus but they should take a close look at the ship as well.
