  3. Carnival Splendor
We're in our late 50s. Have cruised many times and have avoided Carnival due to the 'party boat' reputation. Chose it for the first of a B2B as we were treating two of our kids (19 and 21) to their first cruise vacation. Thankfully, we had the 2nd part of the B2B on Celebrity. We had a fabulous cabin (#8448) - although somewhat noisy due to being under the pool area, the balcony was huge (wrap around) with lots of chairs/loungers. The cabin itself was very large. All this expected as I had researched the cabin. And, we paid much extra for this (well, not the noise part!). Our cabin steward was stellar. He ranked in the top of 9 cruises with other lines. Was concerned that the walk to the stairs/elevator might be a problem, but it was quite short. No complaints there. That's pretty much where the good times end. Ship itself is definitely what Carnival claims.... a fun ship. Very very pink (including the cabin :( ) Very loudly decorated. The main pool area is surrounded by a couple rows of deck chairs, then lots of tables. Seemed weird for a pool deck. You are unable to go to deck 3 or deck 4 and walk all the way through. You must get off on deck 5 and cross over (through the smoky casino) and then go back down. The galley is in the middle on deck 3/4. Very inconvenient. Food - pretty much sucked everywhere. Guys Burgers is gone - I assume they were good? Burgers were meh. Tried the buffet twice, once at breakfast, once at dinner. Horrible. We had anytime (?) dining in the main dining room. Food was the worst we've ever had on a cruise ship. Service was horrendous, until we happened upon a great team on night 4. However, most of their section was between two very large bussing stations. Seriously? Food still sucked. Really enjoyed the paninis, etc at the place by the aft pool. Ate there a lot, as it was very very good. Had the Cheers!! drink package. Real attitude from the bartenders when I'd present both my and my DHs card (both had packages, per their 'rules') and they wanted him to also be there. Again, seriously? Am I twelve? Several of the bartenders at the aft pool bar were extremely rude and not engaged. But, a big hello and shout out to Myra, who did do an awesome job. Remembered us by name, remembered our drinks and did not expect both of us to be there. Our cabin was directly below this area and we had planned on the convenience of us taking turns running up to get beverages. Other than the lovely Myra, this was not to be a relaxing vacation. Embarkation and Disembarkation were smooth. We self disembarked and this went very well. Can't comment on the entertainment as we did not spend anytime in the theatre. However, we were impressed with the live entertainment throughout the ship at other times. And we did, actually, enjoy the singing/dancing waiters in the dining room! Picture takers were abundant and extremely annoying. Even our kids were disappointed with service in the dining room and the quality of drinks. Everyone felt that alcohol was watered down. Glad we experienced Carnival. Won't be back.

Meh

Cabin Review

Premium Vista Balcony
Cabin 9C 8448
Great Cabin - extremely spacious balcony and very spacious cabin. That's what we paid extra for :)Some noise from pool deck directly above, during the day, but if you spend a lot of time on your balcony, you won't notice it so much! Nap time in the cabin can be problematic, however. Night time is fine.
