As my last experience with Royal was a travesty I thought I would try Royal again I recently got back from my "cruise". Once again Royal DROPPED the ball, this time in a MAJOR way. They knowingly sent us out in a disabled ship. Freedom of the seas. Our cruise was in the Western Caribbean, we (my sister and I) were to go to Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Caymans and Cozumel. The dates were from December 7, 2014 thru December 14, 2014. The Ship had only 3 working propellers so our cruising time was double the time it would normally take to get to a port. We were late getting in to each port and had to leave earlier than normal. At each port the excursions we had pre-booked took up all our time as we were shorted by hours at each port. We were unable to fully appreciate our time at each country as we rushed to the excursion then had to rush back to the ship. No shopping, no beaches, no relaxation. We had booked an excursion in Jamaica to climb the Dun’s River Falls and go to Dolphin Cove. At Dun’s River Falls we had to continually climb as we were short on time and we were unable to enjoy the natural pools or take our time and just enjoy the beauty of it. Plus they offered DVD’s of our climb, but we could not wait for them was the Ship was getting ready to sail. They had to get us in and out, to get us back to the Ship on time for our incredibly early return time. We also had a land and sea excursion in the Grand Caymans, we were able to enjoy the semi-sub and the gentlemen that ran that excursion were very professional and made it a fun time, then next we went to the turtle farm, we were given 15 minutes there and then it was back to the bus. After the turtle farm was the town of Hell, we were give 10 minutes then back on the bus, and the Tortuga Rum Factory, we were given 15 minutes, then back on the bus. We could not buy any Rum from them as the bottles had to be taken by the employees of the factory to the Ship and there was no time to get them to the Ship before we were to set sail. We got rushed back. We had cruised about 2 ½ hours out from the Grand Caymans when we had to turn back due to a medical emergency on Ship. So that put us behind even more. At that point Royal made the decision to skip Cozumel all together so that we could get to Port Canaveral on time to get ready for the next batch of poor uninformed guests. I understand a medical emergency is priority, BUT if we had been on a properly working Ship we would have STILL been or very close to the Grand Caymans and we WOULD have been able to get to Cozumel. Royal would like to give you smoke and mirrors and tell you that a medical emergency was the reason for NOT being able to get to Cozumel, when the real reason was a Ship that was not functioning at full potential from the get go. The kicker is that Royal was aware of the problem, as we were the second cruise out with this problem, but didn’t feel necessary to inform us of this, and still they were preparing for another group to go on this stressful cruise, actually TWO more cruises were still scheduled after ours. Then the Ship will be docked and fixed. And I am not sure if the crew was feeling stressed, but those Guest Relations Representatives were once again, just nasty to deal with. Attitudes were awful. I plan on sharing this journal everywhere I can on the internet, starting with CruiseCritic.com. But I guess if Royal ignores the problem and me, then maybe I will go away. What is really sad is I LOVED Royal at the beginning and wanted to stay loyal to them. But apparently they don’t feel the same way.
