About Me: I’m a 33 year old gay male who sailed solo on this cruise. This was the follow-up to a promotion Norwegian Cruise Line ran in early 2014. If you cruised on Norwegian Breakaway or Norwegian Getaway, you would get a FREE cruise on the Norwegian Sky. This was my 30th cruise overall and 20th with Norwegian Cruise Line. I’ve sailed on other cruise lines including Princess, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and once on Carnival. I sailed on the Norwegian Sky in 2010 and it was the worst rated Norwegian Cruise I’d ever taken so I was hesitant on returning to this ship but coupled it together with a longer vacation so I wasn’t too worried. Would this trip be different? Short answer: YES!

Pre-Cruise Stay: Cambria Suites Airport and Cruiseport South – Dania Beach, FL

The hotel is well appointed and for the Priceline bid won, it was a complete steal. The hotel has complimentary wifi but not a complimentary breakfast. There is nothing in close range to the hotel for food so they do have you there. The hotel offered a gym facility with a few cardio machines and free weights. The hotel room was facing the highway but super quiet with no noise. It’s a good place to stay and has a free shuttle which runs to the Port Everglades cruise port in Fort Lauderdale. I was heading to Miami so I booked a private shared van service with SAS Transportation. After dropping off most of the people to an area hotel in Miami, it was time for me to head to the Port of Miami.

Mid-Ship Inside

Cabin IA

The room was in much better condition than the room I had originally on the Sky in 2010. It was well looked after and well-maintained for a ship that has as much turn over as the Sky does. The newer Norwegian ships don’t have the shower curtain. I forgot the Sky did but it was a very minor inconvenience battling that for the cruise. The TV had been updated to a flat screen from the white tubed TVs they used to have when I sailed her last.
