My husband and I were recently aboard the Celebrity Constellation for a wonderful trip with great friends. We wanted to share our thoughts as these reviews have always been a valuable source of information in planning our cruise vacations.

A little about ourselves: We are in our early 40’s and we cruise every January with our friends that live in our hometown, Birmingham, AL. We have always chosen to cruise with Royal Caribbean with our children and Celebrity when we vacation on our own.

We flew into Fort Lauderdale the day before our cruise and arranged for transportation with Holland Limousine Services. Gary, our driver, called as soon as we landed to let us know that he had arrived. He met us curbside and we were on our way. This year we opted to stay at the Sonesta Fort Lauderdale across from the beach. I can’t say that I loved this hotel. Having stayed at the W, Hilton and even the small boutique hotel, Tranquilo when in Fort Lauderdale, I found myself underwhelmed. The hotel itself was clean and the room was adequate, if small. I just found that it lacked much character and the location was not very convenient. The area surrounding the hotel also felt a bit seedy. That afternoon, we walked down to our favorite restaurant pre-cruise, The Casablanca Cafe. As we were walking (it was a lot further than we anticipated) a little golf cart service honked their horn at us. The sweet driver asked where we were going and after a quick negotiation, he delivered us to our desired location. I think it was $4 a person. This is a great service and we arranged for service to Las Olas after an early dinner. We ended up at Public House and enjoyed a few after dinner drinks. A quick call later and our golf cart was whisking us back to our hotel.

. The room was nice enough with lots of storage. Some of the furnishings were showing some wear and tear. The bed skirting, for example, was ripped and the room lacked any sort of art work to enhance the environment. The shower, however, was quite large with a glass shower door. The only issue was the amount of water that sprayed out on the floor as you were showering. We are southerners and we are very accustomed to the heat and humidity of a summer in the Deep South. When we are on vacation, however, we like to be able to retreat to a nice cool stateroom. This particular stateroom was extremely warm. In fact, the entire ship felt warm to us. We had maintenance check our air conditioning and after some minor tweaks the room did cool slightly. Our room was never really at the temperature that we like especially when we are on holiday. Our friends that were on the same floor had the same experience. Our stateroom attendant was fine. He did a great job in the room which was greatly appreciated. He just wasn’t as personable as attendants on previous Celebrity cruises. We enjoyed having bottled waters in our room but the afternoon canapes were a joke. After a plate of a few olives, a couple of bites of melon, a dallop of cream cheese, and 3 pita chips, I requested a cheese and cracker plate be delivered instead. Our balcony was underneath the overhang. Some of our view was slightly obstructed due to the beams holding up this structure. The shade provided by the overhang in the afternoon was nice though.
