Quick overview of recent trip on Solstice. Overall we enjoyed the Cruise but were left a bit disappointed, food in most venues was good but not outstanding except the Buffet restaurant were it was not good at all, there were 500 kids on the ship but you would never have guessed it!, we hardly noticed unless in the pool area as it was total bedlam out there but fair enough, kids were having a great time and good for them, there was also an Adults only area and that was very nice although getting a seat was sometimes difficult and well done to the staff who enforced the adult only policy when a guy wanted to bring his kids in as he was “Aqua class” and though that gave him the right to do so. Getting on and off the ship was pretty straight forward and easy, and when at ports using tenders, there was always plenty and we never had any problem, although we did hear a few grumbles from others. Now to the good, the bad and the ugly. The Good, the Ship is beautiful and well laid out, we had a Oceonview and the stateroom could not be faulted, clean, quiet, well appointed with big bathroom and comfortable bed. The Bad, Entertainment in general with a few exceptions was average, few good shows in the theatre, but overall it’s a bit weak, service at the Bars as well, with so many people on drinks packages the bartenders don’t stop but often there are so few of them that you either have to wait a long time or go elsewhere or not bother. The Ugly, The buffet food in the Oceanview is on par with those cheap all you can eat buffets, hot food is often warm at best and variety hardly changed day to day, not enough staff to monitor what’s going on or change/top up dishes, also tongs need to be changed more regularly with plate to put them on rather than on top of food as often you pick them up and they feel sticky or are soiled with food (make sure you get your food from the back of the tray), and often I saw people using hands to pick up food, we only ate there 4 times in 9 days.
