It was with mixed feelings that we embarked on the Sunshine. The reviews were so mixed I didn't know what to expect. Also the roll call indicated that there were going to be hundreds of kids on the ship. We went with an open mind and were pleasantly surprised. The cruise was wonderful. The ship is beautiful and in very good shape. Yes, the layout of the Sunshine is not the greatest, but we knew that and planned accordingly.
We had a suite, 10107, which was spacious and quiet. Being on the tenth floor, we could walk up one floor to the serenity deck and down one floor to the lido deck. Never a problem with elevators. I have to commend Carnival for their Camp Carnival. We never encountered kids running through the halls or any of the decks. Those we did see were well behaved, a credit to their parents. The venues for the shows were, as others commented, small for the amount of passengers, but we planned ahead for that, too and got to the theaters a half hour before show time. We had early seating for dinner, so if dinner ran late, we went to the later show. The food in the main dining room was very good, our servers were great and our cabin steward, Edy, was unobtrusive, but efficient and friendly when we did see him. The lido was laid out nicely so there was rarely a long line. We ate one night at the Italian restaurant and enjoyed it, but were not wowed. The ports were great. We had not been to Belize or Roatan before so we enjoyed those places. All in all I would give the Sunshine great marks.
The suite was nicely laid out, about the size of two balcony rooms. The bathroom had the shower in the tub, which was so much better than those curtains that cling to you. There were two sliding door closets with enough room for all our clothes. There was plenty of storage room in the bathroom. The balcony was long and narrow with one lounger, two chairs and a small table. We sat out at night and watched the stars.
