We had heard great things about Celebrity and were really looking forward to a great time. What a disappointment! Immediately following a Holland America cruise, we took this trip out of Singapore to a number of ports in Asia. Though Asia was quite stunning, we can't say the same for Celebrity. On the heels of Holland, where EVERYONE was cheery and helpful, this crew seemed sullen and crabby. The food was mediocre at best and some of the waiters needed a number of lessons in etiquette and service. We waited interminably during a number of meals for our next course. Really, should it take two hours to eat lunch???

The itinerary of this particular cruise turned out to make little sense at all. First, two days sailing to reach Bali, then another day to make it to Komodo island, then almost four days cruising to go all the way back to Thailand, then stopping daily on the way back to Singapore. Who thought this up? It would have been a lot more enjoyable to stop daily on the way back (there are certainly plenty of ports to do that) and not have a seemingly interminable spell at sea. Also, the stop at Penang was a total waste. No one we talked to enjoyed that stop. I'd recommend to Celebrity to find someplace else to go ashore.

The one bright spot on this cruise was the entertainment. Most of it was top-drawer and some as good as any production numbers we've seen on Broadway or in Las Vegas. Their group is incredibly hard-working and very talented. For the rest, we'll find another cruise line that rates a lot better than this.
