After an amazing Mediterranean adventure in July 2014 with just my husband and I, we decided to take our sons (6, 8 and 13 years) on Disney Magic - which we had docked next to in Venice and Katakolon. They were beyond excitement at the prospect to the point that I began to worry that it might not live up to all their expectations! I need not have worried - Disney delivered the perfect family cruise with aplomb and style! We had the BEST time and hope to return to the Magic again in the future!

The adventure started as we drew into the kerb and saw the top of the ship poking out over the port building. Our suitcases were swiftly whisked away and we saw them again by 5pm that evening. Check in was incredibly smooth and embarkation started on schedule. The kids excitement became palpable as we walked down the gangway and reached a resounding crescendo as we entered the atrium and were announced in ringing tones "Please welcome the XYZ family!" Nice touch Disney!!! The kids were then greeted by one of the staff who they assumed was there to meet them personally as they started telling him all about everything. He was obviously well used to kids and listened with patience and interest before telling us our dining options for lunch. We decided to go to Cariocas as we didn't want to cart our hand luggage up stairs. It was a good choice for us and the kids loved walking down the passage way with the big portholes on the side - hugging themselves and exclaiming "We are on a cruise ship! We are really on a cruise ship!" Lunch at Cariochas was very pleasant and our server was excellent. This set the tone for the rest of the trip - enjoyable food, attentive staff, beautiful surroundings and more to do than we could possibly do in a given time!

Our cabins were ready exactly when said (1:30pm from memory) and we had opted for two connecting deluxe inside staterooms as they were a similar price to one family stateroom on an upper deck. These were excellent and provided plenty of space for our family of five - especially with two bathrooms and two toilets! My husband and I had previously travelled in the Yacht Club on MSC in a balcony stateroom and we didn't miss the balcony or feel that the accommodations were in anyway inferior. In fact from the perspective of storage and the entertainment on the TV the inside staterooms on Disney were vastly superior! The kids particularly enjoyed being able to operate the bathroom lights from the cabin whilst my husband was inside it! The beds were very comfortable. We used both queen beds and couch beds in the two cabins. The air-conditioning was a little cool for my younger sons and we were unable to adjust it but our cabin attendant (Charlie) bought more blankets and in the colour requested by my cheeky son. Charlie was excellent and most days had the cabin made up before we returned from breakfast and again by the time we returned to the cabin after dinner. The kids loved the towel animals.

Plus we had a laundry only a few doors down the hallway in the other direction which was very convenient! On my last cruise we were at the front of the ship on the top accommodation deck and I got quite queasy then suffered horrible land sickness afterwards. This cruise I felt very little movement and wasn't ill at all - either during the cruise or after.
