We have cruised seven times, mostly Carnival lines. Although the food was better than most, as many other travelers have said, the service was not very friendly. We were most aggravated by the $11 a day per person we were charged automatically for "tips" that were not deserved or earned. No incentive for employees to do a good job. I prefer tipping myself so I know the employees get the money and the hard workers are properly identified and rewarded. No food after dinner on a cruise line except for a whole pizza you have to pay for? What happened to 24 hour food. Room service menu was a joke. All the soft serve ice cream machines were closed without any explanation that was intelligible. The head of buffet rudely told me to cover up when I walked through with a bathing suit while everyone else was half naked (despite the fact that their bodies should have been covered). Italians hate Americans and 95% was Italian. Rude is an understatement. We were ostracized by the crew, staff, and other passengers. We got a room that said Ocean View but it was actually a view of the side of a lifeboat! Many ships have lifeboats below the cabins but not the luminosa. Bored to death on sea days. Very few activities. All announcements were made in five languages. Ugggh. Asking any questions about the ship were either ignored or dismissed. If a coffee machine was empty, no one would offer to get one, just say in a foreign language that I could walk half a mile to another machine. The only good thing about Costa was a very good embarkation and disembarkation method. Unless you were foreign and had to wait in a huge line to get back to Miami. Americans should avoid Costa lines at all costs unless you speak fluent Italian and do not look American!

No football games or movies on main outdoor television. Only 24/7 advertising. No ESPN. Sports bar had no sports on televisions. Juices were flavored water. Beds were hard and uncomfortable. Pillows small and awful. Casino was a joke. Video poker games were rigged and pay tables so low it was ridiculous to even try to play. Poker table was used once a day for a tournament or two. I will say the singers, especially the Tringali Trio, were amazingly good but again very unfriendly to Americans.
