After all the negative reviews we were concerned about our trip. Had a great time, there were some inconveniences but nothing that could wreck our New Year cruise. The first night the reservation system was down and that caused some concern, we still had dinner but I think everyone was concerned that this would be how the trip progressed. Had no further issues with reservations. Jamie's was by far the best restaurant of the week, Wonderland was worth visiting just for the unusual variations on presentation. The waiter Oliver said it was whimsical and weird. He created our dinner preferences. Chops was the same. The complimentary restaurants were okay, Grande was the best, you need to wear a tux or jacket when visiting the Grande. Food quality in the complimentary restaurants were on par with the regular Main Dining rooms on other ships. The staff seemed over worked and worried about taking care of everyone to the extent that they dropped the ball on occasion. I have a food allergy that we alerted RC about before boarding, in the past it was always mentioned in all the restaurants that we visited. on the Quantum you are on your own, it was only brought up once at Silk. The Windjammer was actually pretty good for breakfast and lunch. The Pub we could have avoided, nothing special. Did not do North Star or Ifly, didn't spend the money to stand in line while on vacation. The entertainment was good, Mama Mia was very entertaining, as usual the Starwater featured acrobats and I lost the message, the Sonic Odessy featured the earth harp and other unusual instruments don't have a clue about what the performance symbolized. The only time we saw the cruise director was when he was MC'ing the entertainment, did not really interact with the guests. If you are a Crown and Anchor member be aware of what your special offers are, they will not automatically use them when you buy drinks or use the spa. You have to tell them about it, they would not correct this for me when I inquired at customer service. Our TV did not work the first day so we thought it was a tech problem, turned out the TV was broken. They replaced this in about 15 minutes once they showed up, took three calls, two to maintenance then when I called customer service they fixed it immediately. I think the theme is the squeaky wheel gets the oil. The Sollarium was not that quiet and the staff did not keep the kids out. One has to have the prime rib sandwiches in the 270 grill for lunch. I saw one elderly lady down 4 of them. The food overall was good. The rooms were great, you have to ask for everything. Our attendant did not have shampoo in the room until the second night and no ice until asked for. This is the first time we disembarked by carrying our own luggage and we will do this in the future. New Jersey is an interesting place to leave, expensive cab ride from airport, would love for them to use a more southern port. Would love to be closer to better ports, don't have 12 days to do the southern caribbean trips. The casino is very smokey, people went down there so they could smoke inside. A lot of smokers not gambling. Most of the shops are high end. Had mixed feelings after cruise, different, dining was different, seemed rushed. My wife and I were always done in less then an hour. This was one of the things we missed just relaxing and enjoying the food on previous cruises. We have been cruising for over thirty years, mainly with RC. First time we did not book a future cruise on ship, might change brands, will have to think about it. Very beautiful ship, the staff seemed intent on learning and training. Renewed friendships with staff from the Oasis that had transferred to Quantum. I think it is worth the time to experience it once.
