We searched for a cruise out of Boston or New York City, so we could drive and save money. After much research we chose the Breakaway because of the size and activities. The trip included myself, a 50-ish woman, my 62 year old husband and two 19 year old's, my son and his friend. We had decided on two aft balcony rooms when just for fun I checked the price of a Haven aft balcony with the kids sail free sale. It was not much more to go with the Haven room , so we did it. We booked the December 7th cruise. Needless to say we could not wait to try the Haven.

We ended up taking Amtrak down to NYC which is still cheaper than flying and a lot more fun. After a stop at Krispy Kreme in Penn station we all squeezed in to one taxi and made the drive to the Breakaway. Our taxi driver took us straight over to 12th Ave, so we could see the ship as we drove up. It is huge!

Embarking as a haven guest is a breeze. We were taken straight to a security check with no waiting, then we followed all the Haven sign to the back of the terminal to the Haven Lounge. We did have to wait a whole 5 minutes before we were called up to check in. After check in a woman led us onto the ship, which was interesting as we boarded with everyone else, but the woman asks everyone to step to the right to let the Haven guests pass the line. If I were in the regular line I would not have been happy and the comments people made were amusing to me, but I knew I would be them the next time I cruise on the Breakaway.

Cabin Review

The Haven Aft-Facing Penthouse with Balcony

Cabin H6

The room had everything we needed. The amount of storage space was great. The closets in the bedroom were almost empty as we did not need that much space. The table in the living room was a perfect place for breakfast every morning brought to us by our butler. The Lavazza coffee machine was easy to use and we had many lattes. The small bathroom is a tight squeeze for a 6'4" man, but my husband managed. The sofa bed is hard even with a egg crate topper. The bedroom had adequate space to move around. The lights in the bedroom are awesome as you can have blue lights at the bottom of the night stand lit up all night which makes it easy to see and get around without turning on bright lights. The bathroom is huge. We had lots of space left over on the counter and a whole drawer empty under the sink. The balcony is the best. We had two loungers, two chairs with big cushions and a table with 4 chairs. Most of the times we were on the balcony we never heard any other people. The sound of the wake is loud, but relaxing. The only night we heard music from H20 was the night of the fireworks, which you can see fine from the balcony. It is is a great room, but if you have any mobility problems it is a far walk to the Haven. A few times I wanted to go to the Haven Courtyard, but I was too tired to walk that far. You do not use the Haven as much as you would if you had a room in the front, but the balcony is awesome.
