My friend and I are in our 40's and try to cruise with our families once or twice a year on Carnival or RCI. I was offered a special promotion by the Casino Players club for a next to free cruise so we decided to leave the families at home and make it a Girl's trip. We flew into Ft Lauderdale the night before and rented a car with a drop off by the Miami port the next morning. We got a cheap rate at the Courtyard by Marriott in Miramar on Priceline. It was nice having the rental car so we could easily go out for a nice seafood dinner and stop by the grocery store to stock up on pop to carry on board with us. We dropped our car off at Avis by the port and then took their free shuttle to the pier. We got there around noon and were on the ship by 12:45 - very smooth. Instead of heading straight to the Lido deck like most folks, we explored the ship first. It was a great way to get a feel for the layout of the ship and to snap some pics of the ship while it is empty. We had early dinning and were placed at a large window view table along with 8 other ladies all traveling in 2's like us. We had a great time with them and would often meet up at the comedy shows. The Dinning service is not as polished as RCI but no complaints. I was thrilled to get to enjoy the yummy choclate melting cake every night so all was good! One tip for breakfast and lunch on the lido is to take your food up to the upper level where there is tons of sitting and you can relax without all the crowds. We played a little in the Casino each night and I actually walked away a winner on the slots, which is rare. The only area that I really think Carnival can improve is their Entertainment. Their shows are similiar to what you would see at an amusement park. On the plus side, their Comedy clubs are a huge hit with long lines of folks hoping to get in - so show up early! Their cruise director Malcolm does a very good job and totally hits it out of the park with his Beyonce impersonation during the Carnival Legends show on the last night. Disembarking was be far the easist and fastest we have ever had. It was scarey how fast it was to clear customs. We originally were going to do a taxi back to FLL but ended up going with a Shuttle service at the port that offered $10 pp airport transfers. We love cruising and I would not hesitate to go on the Splendor again.

Cabin Review

Ocean View

Cabin 6B

If you are wanting an Ocean View cabin - snap this one up! It is a huge corner aft cabin that feels like a suite inside. It has two big windows that give you up close views of the ocean and plenty of light. The cabin was just one flight away from our main dinning room and a quick elevator ride to the Lido deck. The elevators on the aft end where never busy like the mid ship elevators. Great cabin and location. The only down side with a lower aft cabin is that you will feel vibration when the ship is docking into port but we where usually up by then anyways.
