This was a Christmas cruise with the attendant up-charge for the time of year. The ship's material condition, including our cabin was great, as, for the most part, was the service. Unfortunately, there is more to cruising than a nice cabin and good service. This cruise featured the worst entertainment we have ever experienced on cruise. There was no dance band, no Caribbean band, no piano player or harpist, and no live Christmas music save for an a cappella group that performed in the dining room on Christmas eve. What live music there was varied from almost humorously bad ( a group called Carly and the King) to awkwardly loud for the venue in which it was performed.
Almost as bad as the entertainment was the food. The buffet food was generally tasteless and unpleasurable to the point that it compared (albeit somewhat favorably) to food served in the military. The food in the main dining room was not as bad, but not particularly good, either.
Finally (and unforgivably), the ship had a few weeks before suffered some kind of engineering casualty that impacted its speed, causing the cancellation of one of three port stops. As compensation, we were all given a $100 per cabin credit. Given that the ship made a considerable sum of money from the sale of extra food and drinks, gambling, and fuel savings, this sum could hardly be called reasonable compensation. We are done with Celebrity.
