  3. Celebrity Reflection
Concierge Class Veranda & Inside Stateroom. Few words about us: Couple in early 50's, couple in late 30's + kids 11 and 14. Cruise background: 2005 Sovereign of the Seas, 2008 Costa Fortuna, 2010 MSC Poesia, 2010 Nieuw Amsterdam, 2011 Carnival Freedom, 2013 Carnival Valor, 2013 MSC Divina. WHAT WE LIKE: Embarkation and disembarkation was hassle free and the quickest ever. Previously, we witnessed fights between passengers in line to leaving the Fortuna ship, very disorganized lines were also on Poesia. Sovereign and Divina was hassle free. Ship's public areas, and cabins are spotless and in great condition. On Freedom, Valor or Poesia dirty dishes were left in elevators or hallways where the crew was not always able to clean it immediately. Many times on Carnival and MSC floors in elevators were wet from spilled drinks. Non of that on the Reflection! There is almost no signs of wear of the 2 years old ship, because of high quality German materials and furniture used. We still remember the wear of materials on less than 2 year old ships: Divina and Poesia. Ship design: 9/10. Amazing live ficus tree hanging high in the air in the main Atrium. Industrial look of panoramic elevators, very different from Divina (elegant), or Nieuw Amsterdam (modern) elevators. Gorgeous 2-3 story high curtains in the Atrium and “boulevard shopping”. Best looking MDR we've ever seen, amazing chandelier, wine racks and pillars. Clean, great looking and maintained public restrooms. Carnival's restrooms were almost always filthy with paper on the floor, maybe because of lot of kids on board. Also MSC's had wrong toilet strategy: female cleaning men's restroom, male cleaning ladies' toilet! Hard to believe here in the U.S, but seems to be normal in Europe. 10/10 layout of Oceanview Cafe, no lines to get food compared to complete chaos at MSC or Costa buffets. Oceanview Cafe staff was nice, great looking, quick and efficient. At Reflection's Opus MDR we experienced best waiters in the World, the most professional, friendly, informative and dedicated we've ever seen. Out of 8 cruises, nobody can beat MEHMET and his assistant MELINDA (table 371). Thank you...and see you in Turkey or Poland! This ship has also best crew at sea. Very professional, polite and do not seem to be overworked at all. Also, their appearance and uniforms were the best in comparison to all above ships. Crew on MSC's ships looked very tired and unhappy. Reception staff: There is no word such as: impossible, sorry we can't etc. Different world compared to arrogant front desk staff on Poesia! Quality of food at Opus MDR or Oceanview Cafe very good, but not the best! Limited assortment of deserts and just ordinary presentation of dishes. Close, but can't beat Nieuw Amsterdam's or Royal cuisine however, way above Carnival, Costa or MSC food. Complementary birthday cake and gift for our daughter's 11th b-day - very nice touch from X. Captain and officers were present thought the ship and interacting with passengers. Enjoyed spending time on our veranda. SO, SO: With the exception of 2, productions in Theater were just okay compared to shows on any of above Italian ships, especially Divina. Costa and MSC shows are bit shorter but better quailty. Small swimming pools! Since they don't drain the pool water every night the water has chlorine added as oppose to salty ocean water. Because of that, the water temperature should be warmer also in our opinion. Only 6 hot tubs vs. 14 on Divina. Less activities on the Pool deck however, DJ was playing everyday and he was good. Also you not going to find this on X Reflection: live flowers on restaurant's tables, no tablecloths for dinner in buffet, no fresh squeezed orange juice or fresh raspberries, in elevators no rugs with day of the week printed on....In 2010 New Amsterdam had it all that! We can't tell what is now on HAL. Small and not impressive Fitness Center compared to large ones on the Nieuw Amsterdam or Divina. Ship that long should have 3rd bank of elevators. No Hot Gloss presentations, as on sister X ships. We didn't take advantage of any of the specialty restaurants, kids/teens clubs, spa, casino, excursion, photographers. WHAT WE DISLIKE: 3 hours delay to San Juan due to high wind (?) REALLY CAPTAIN! We and many other passengers were very disappointed. Hard to believe that a new X ship delays 3 hours and that the Captain let the people out after 6pm in complete darkness to unsafe Old San Juan. We didn't get to see Santa Maria Cemetery as planned, we made it, but it was dark and closed. Sailed on Poesia and Divina in much worse weather conditions, and always made it on time to SJ. If SJ is too hard to make it to on time, remove it from the schedule and stop for example in Grand Turk or Samana instead, and give people full daylight enjoyment!!!! Unacceptable layout of veranda cabin Concierge Class 9306: 4th bed slides out from underneath of the sofa, blocking access to the veranda and limits space in the cabin itself. My daughter slept on it - about 6-8 inches from the floor! One bunk bed above the sofa would solve that! I discovered that on the ship's deck plan, this cabin (9306) fits 3 people, and in my opinion while booking, when they are running out of quads, they trick people into, thinking its a 4 person cabin by just sliding that drawer bed from underneath the couch. No Dance Club...!! as opposed to sister ships....conference room instead..WOW... conference on vacations!?! Missing The euro-style Galaxy Club on Divina, or outstanding 2 story Dance Floor on Fortuna. SUMMARY: The Reflection and the X was new to all of us. With the exceptions of few things X does not disappoint and we really enjoyed the cruise. On behalf of all in our group, Reflection is very close, but can't beat the elegance of Nieuw Amsterdam, it's fine touches, atmosphere, individual feel and amazing food. For future cruising: HAL and X are the two lines we consider the most, we will also consider RCL, Costa and MSC, and will never ever come back aboard the Carnival fleet. Here is our vote, itinerary do not count. 1. Nieuw Amsterdam (BEST!!) 2. Reflection (VERY GOOD!) 3. Divina, Sovereign of the Seas, Fortuna (GOOD) 4. Poesia (SO, SO) 5. Carnival Dream, Carnival Valor (NEVER AGAIN)
