I sailed on the Star several years ago on a Panama cruise and enjoyed it. Since then the ship and the cruise line have had a dramatic shift in design and customer service strategy. Both are disappointing and both will ensure I never sail with Norwegian Cruise line again. We selected this cruise for it's departure date as we wanted to be on a Holiday cruise. This departure left the Sunday before X-mas and returned the Sunday after.

I was traveling with my Mom, sister and niece and the trip did not start off well with my family getting stuck in a 1.5 hour line outside the terminal. My Mom has bad hips and a bad back so this was not an awesome experience for her. This was further frustrating as my Mom's platinum line access didn't really yield any advantage and just ended up being upsetting and useless. This situation started off what was a theme of this trip, an answer we would hear often when customer service situations became difficult.. "We are full and therefore things are more difficult or slower".. My answer to this is you need to change your capacity estimates if you can't handle a ship full of passengers. Several people I heard in line said this embarkation process was the worst they had ever seen. Effectively needed to stand in a massive outdoor line to get through security and another congested line for process check in.

Once onboard we missed the dining room lunch but the rooms were ready so we went there. I actually found the rooms to be pretty good and was not disappointed. However i will say that Holland America beds are better. The steward introduced himself and was one of the bright spots of service on this trip. We had two veranda cabins on deck 9.

Mid-Ship Balcony

Cabin BA

good sized room with a decent bathroom. storage is better on other lines and the beds are WAY better on Holland America.
