It began the second day! The first day regent put us up in is after the most inappropriate hotel in San Francisco, the tiny, quaint Mark Hopkins Intercontinental; queue 35 minutes for a seat at breakfast and sleeping in a bed with a lumpy mattress. Formal night; gold star points - up to four items of clothing pressed gratis. Yes, please. A pair of shorts, a dress and one gentleman's' suit (jacket and trousers). Promised to be due back in our suite by 3pm, still waiting at 6.30pm. Finally ironed articles arrive back. A suit; the wrong colour,two sizes too bigwith top-stitched lapels and outer pockets. Not my husband's suit. Call room service to sort out. They swore it was the same suit we sent out. After the general manager of the cruise as good as called my husband a liar (a 100+ night cruiser on Regent) there was nowhere to go. The Captain heard of the fracas and intervened. Back to the General Manager who complained we'd gone over his head (he refused us a lost and found confirmation for insurance purposes until we were to disembark 3 weeks later). We write to Regent Head Office. Our email is confirmed with a 'we will respond to your communication within the next 3 weeks'. Six months later we're still waiting to hear from the illustrious cruise company. The only 'luxury' aspect to this cruise was the dining. Excellent as always. Restaurant staff faultless. An old cigarette butt, probably having blown in from outside, remained in a corner on the floor of our cabin for two weeks. Fruit was not replaced until it was fermenting. Housekeeping was a hit and miss affair. Ports of call were skipped due to a 'hurricane'. Mexico has an abundance of beautiful ports to choose from even when we shifted course to avoid the weather. No, we went to a Mayan archeological site that didn't actually have the original ruins but concrete imitations of what they would have looked like. The other port was in a city (we'd never heard of) where the town was undergoing a new stormwater drainage construction and walking through the town involved climbing over mounds of dirt and open drains. Another 'excusion' on bus took us through a city where we disembarked for a walking around the shops. Back on the bus we were going nowhere. The bus driver had backed into the local Chief of Police's car and the local constabulary were doing their best to put him under arrest. Not possible for Navigator to get us back to cruise terminal so we waited over an hour in the bus baking in midday sun. It got worse and I won't take any more of your time. However we'd already booked two more cruises for 2014. Cancelling them wasn't feasible. Surely things could only improve after this circus?
