We were on the Dec 22-27th cruise to Cozumel and Princess Cay. We are experienced cruisers and have travelled on Ruby Princess, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity before. We go on cruises with the mindset that we are going to be flexible and have a fun time! I have to admit I was disappointed though within the first 15 minutes of exploring the ship but tried to focus on the positives throughout the trip. We had 2 mini-suites on the 9th floor: D305 and D419. Our group consisted of 2 adults (ages 42 and 43) and 3 teens (13, 16, 17).
Pros: Boarding process was a breeze. Very organized.
Rooms were clean and the attendants were friendly.
Balconies were spacious. Uncovered but worked well for sun-bathing.
Nice variety of pools on the ship. Movies Under the Stars was a hit with my family.
We especially enjoyed the pizza served on the pool deck, International Cafe, and the Casino.
Nice movie selection in the cabin.
Princess Cay was clean and offered something for everyone. A fun beach day!
Cons: Pool towels were not available on Day 1. Must use beach towels from your cabin. Note: pool towels were older and need a refresh.
Some of the furniture in the buffet dining rooms are showing their age and need to be replaced.
The food selection at the buffet was odd and not appealing. There was a long line to get food at the buffet on Day 1. Something I have not experience on other ships. Passengers were grumbling. Noted a few young passengers with poor buffet etiquette so we did not return. (Ex: sneezing without covering mouth)
The most alarming to us was the brown water (color of cola!) coming out of faucets and shower head intermittently in both cabins starting on Day 2. We were told this was happening on the starboard side of the 9th floor and a plumber would need to work on it. This continued through the end of Day 4. We brushed our teeth with bottle water (provided by us) and went to the pools and hot tubs vs taking a shower with contaminated water.
This is an older ship that has doors in some common areas (busy pool/elevator areas) that you need to use your hands to pull/push vs being automatic. I was surprised Princess did not upgrade these doors to touch free to reduce germ transfer among passengers.
We tried to ignore the flaws to the best of our ability and have a fun Holiday vacation. Would I cruise on this ship again? No. We much prefer the Celebrity Cruise Line.
Mini-Suite D419 and D305 were spacious and clean. Comfortable bed, desk, couch, 2 tv's, ample storage to hang and fold clothes. bath tub/shower. They provide a pump of bath soap and a pump of combined shampoo conditioner. Balcony was nice but did not have a covering. If you look up you can see passengers looking down. Carpet and linens were in good condition. Pool/Beach towels need a refresh. Attendants did a great job of keeping rooms clean. D419 and D305 had dark brown water coming out of faucet and shower head intermittently. The attendant said they were having a problem on the 9th floor starboard side during our stay.
A perfect beach day! Plenty of lounge chairs, wide variety of activities, family-friendly buffet of hamburgers/hot dog/salad, tasty adult beverages, clean location, and soft white sand. We went snorkeling and kayaking and had a great time. The only complaint I have is the long lines for the excursion desk at Princess Cay. Princess needs to have a larger check-in desk with more employees.
Our group of 5 (ages 43, 42, 17, 16, 13) booked the Playa Mia Beach Getaway through Princess. The group of participants met at the end of the cruise ship pier and were shuttled via a newer/clean bus. The employees were very friendly and polite. Mario was our driver on the way to Playa Mia and did a great job. They had plenty of nice white lounge chairs overlooking the pool or the Gulf of Mexico. Attendants asked if we needed any drinks. They offer hair braiding (for a fee), pictures with iguana (for a fee) and photos with parrots (for a fee). They had a large covered area to eat from the buffet. Our group played it safe and stuck to a plate of rice for lunch. (We typically don't eat meat in foreign countries as a personal choice.) A variety of gift shops are onsite. The have large inflatable in the water for the kids to climb and jump on. Snorkeling excursions are available from Play Mia. We found the employees to be very accommodating. They truly want to show their guests a nice time. Tip: Remember to bring your own beach towel!View All 696 Beach Reviews
