With 18 previous cruises on various lines and never been on Celebrity, I have admired and really wanted to go on Celebrity Summit which I had seen around quite a bit and seemed to have good ratings. All in all I feel it is better for Celebrity to sell this ship, which is in the plans, and look forward to a better experience on Celebrity Equinox, a newer and larger ship, which we have scheduled for a Mediterranean cruise in Oct 2015.

LACKLUSTER DECOR First of all the Summit just seemed plain. I wasn't expecting the glitz and Vargas styling of Carnival, but Summit just seems to lack color and interesting decor - not really even quite up to just a nice hotel standard in my opinion - especially on the upper and out side decks.

UNEXPECTEDLY CROWDED FOR LOUNGING AND FITNESS Another unexpected problem on an older, smaller, fewer passenger ship like this was the over crowding especially on sea days. On other newer larger ships with many more passengers we never have problems finding a deck chair or two at various out of the way nooks or places on deck. On the one Summit sea day we had - there really was not even 2 loungers together anywhere on the pool deck, adult area or upper outside deck, by around noon time. We are Ok with sharing one lounger for a hour of so of deck time, but even at that - a pretty good search around the pool deck only tuned up 2 single unused loungers. Despite signs and claims that "saving" is not allowed - there was a very very obvious saving of 2 loungers right next to us and we were there over half an hour. A similar problem was with the gym which we always use on sea days. Maybe with the current craze over fitness, more cruisers are using the gym than when the ship was originally designed. I like weight machines and as usual the Summit had a nice selection of fairly well maintained machines, but when I started around 10 AM that area was pretty crowded with an overcrowded dance fitness class and many of the aerobic machines in use, but only a few people on the weight machines. Within 20-30 minutes the weight machines were in use by some many people only one or two were open at a time and despite wanting more time on them, I had to give up. because I would have to keep waiting to get on the machines I wanted more time on. The Summit has no adequate place to accommodate walkers or joggers unless you want to do that very early or late in the day - or maybe on a port day. The track is only about 1/3 of the ship - around the pool area on the deck above the pool and that area, like others, gets so crowded - it would be very hard to use during most periods. The ship also has signs against jogging or exercise around the pool deck and also on deck 5 - lightly used but also it does not allow passage around the ends of the vessel - so that would just be back and forth anyway even if was allowed. This is the only ship I have been on where it was pretty near impossible to get in walking or jogging unless you want to join the few hardy souls I saw doing it first thing in the morning on the designated jogging track.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View with Balcony 2C

Cabin 2C

Perfect selection for us - right by the elevators to avoid long corridor walks to and from the cabin. Probably exposed to the maximum noise from gusts coming and going, but i expect most cabins get some of that and the passengers weer not overly noisy on this trip. This balcony cabin, two aft and the rest forward, are on an outward bulge of the ship offering maximum viewing. Like that Celebrity still stocks soap, shampoo and conditioner in the bathrooms. the rectangular shower seems roomier than the more common rounded chambers. Decent balcony size and nice chairs and table. Modern flat screen tv with menu that allows access to all the info you need and some interesting programming and movies.
