Our experience on the Maasdam was less then positive. My partner and I cruise a lot and this was our first and last time sailing with Holland America.
The experience started off on a negative note with lunch at the buffet. Lines were confusing people did not know where to line up, the plates that were handed to us with our food were so hot they burned your hands, the staff did not listen to you and just tossed whatever they thought you said on your plate.
Next came the muster drill. This lasted more than 40 minutes. Most of which was spent standing packed together waiting for other passengers and the long drawn out instructions presented over the P.A. system.
Room was small but adequate. The large window looked out onto the lower promenade. OK during the day but in the evening be sure to close the drapes or passers by can see in. We only saw our room steward three time. He did fill the ice bucket twice a day but after that we had to call room service to get it filled. He also ate half a container of chocolate covered pretzels we had in the room. The ship defiantly needs to be some remodeling. The paint on the door ways into the bathroom was chipped and the carpeting needed replaced.
