We took the 5 day followed by the 7 day Western Caribbean B2B cruises on the Emerald Princess out of Houston. First off let me put this all in prospective. We are a couple in our early 40s and this was our 9th cruise with Princess. Vacations are a time for us to relax and we are realistic, low maintenance, and know not everything goes perfectly. This was our first and last time sailing from Houston.

Houston: We arrived the day prior in case of any issues and stayed downtown at the Doubletree. We took an Uber from the airport to hotel for $37 and it took 30 mins. Everything in the Houston area is really spread out so we elected to stay downtown so we could walk to restaurants and entertainment. The following morning we again took an Uber from hotel to port for $62 and took about 45 mins. Had to guide the driver as he had no idea where he was going. Thankfully I had already mapped it out and could guide us with my iPhone.

Embarkation: Knowing that the Emerald’s last port was Ft Lauderdale and the disembarking passengers probably cleared customs there we arrived early at about 1100. The porters were right there to take our bags and we proceeded to the long line forming outside the building. We flagged down a lady passing out the health forms to inquire where the priority line was and she directed us to the correct line. Security processing started within 10-15 mins and we were through and on our way to check in with not too long of wait. There was no line for suite check in so we were checked in and in the suite/elite lounge within minutes having coffee and snacks while waiting to board. Be aware that lines and waiting areas crisscross so people are going in all directions. Just follow the signs and the numerous people directing you. By 1225 we got the call we could start boarding. And we were on board by 1240.

Cabin Review

Cabin VS

My partner and I were in E732, an aft vista suite, on deck 8. This suite was great. We had plenty of room with a good size bathroom and a spacious balcony with views aft and port side. The balcony was fully covered and had 2 wooden loungers and a table with 3 chairs. There is a beam going through part of the balcony but wasn’t that big of a deal. With the walk-in closet, drawers, and cabinets, we had more than enough storage for 12 days. Our room steward was Ronald and he was great. Keep the cabins spotless, ice filled, and anything we needed. He was friendly and interacted with us daily but also took care of his duties without being intrusive. After 12 days we were like friends.
