The title should tell it all - what an absolutely wonderful cruise on a beautiful ship! Stars of the 50's and 60's rubbed elbows with 2000 passengers reliving their teen years. Many out of town passengers stayed at the Hilton near Pt Everglades where a pre cruise party was held the night before embarkation to get everyone in the mood. Embarkation was easy enough, we drove to the port from Miami, dropped off the luggage, checked in but had to wait over an hour in the lounge before boarding the ship. Crowd control I suppose. From the moment we walked on the ship, it was one exciting moment to the next! Being everyone was there for the same reason, it was a party atmosphere all week. The Eurodam is a beautiful ship. I've read reviews from people who thought the Eurodam was dark and dingy and that the food was awful but I've come to the conclusion that many 'reviewers' just like to complain if everything isn't perfectly to their liking. One woman on this cruise complained about the food yet our party of four ate in the same dining room at the same time and thought the food was awesome! To each his own. Since this was a charter cruise, activites were provided by the chartering company but there was never a dull moment aboard the ship. The service was excellent, as we usually find on HAL ships (this was our 7th HAL cruise). Our first port of call, Falmouth was cancelled due to the port being closed for high winds so the ship went to Montego Bay instead! Wow, what luck that was! There was some confusion about shore excursions due to the change but HAL gladly provided shipboard credit for a missed tour. The other ports, Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Key West were wonderful, especially because the weather was perfect.
Our stateroom was an oceanview balcony on deck 7 and was comfy, especially the bed! HAL provides very comfortable beds on all their ships that we have been on. I loved the bathtub as well. Closet space was adequate. We did not spend much time on our stateroom but the ice bucket was always full and the towels changed daily. Our cabin steward was friendly and efficient and had good attention to detail. Since the entertainment was provided by the stars onboard, which was awesome, no comments on HAL staff other than they were everywhere when they needed to be.
The food in the Lido was excellent as usual and there was a large variety to suit everyone's palate. Some people didn't realize that each side of the Lido served diffferent food so I don't understand how anyone could complain about the variety. We ate breafkast and lunch on the open deck at the stern of the ship next to the pool each day where there were plenty of tables. The main dining room food was excellent, along with the service although our party of 4 did not have a reserved table each night. Only once did we experience a problem in asking for a table for 4 but the maitre'd quickly found a table and we were happy. It never occurred to us to reserve a table for 4 for the entire week. Next time we know. I like my meat medium well and it was cooked to perfection each night. We ate in the main dining room every night because the food and service were so good so we didn't try any of the specialty restaurants even though the Pinnacle Grill looked very inviting.
Cabin was spacious enough for 2 people. Very comfortable bed. Ice bucket was filled several times a day. Mini fridge kept stocked. Lots of closet space. Safe in closet worked good. Loved the bath tub in the bath room! Towels were changed daily even though we didn't ask for them. Clean, pleasant cabin. Comfortable chairs on the balcony. Plenty of room to move around.
