We couldn't have asked for more. We'd never been on a cruise before and were a bit apprehensive about just about everything: travel to Europe, size of cabin and amenities, food (my husband is picky), excursions (would there be too much walking for my husbands's bum knee), time at stops, etc., etc. Well, everything was absolutely wonderful. We made our own travel arrangements but from the moment we got out of the taxi at the port, we were treated with exceptional service. The staff was always helpful, friendly and always available. The food was magnificent (and there was a large selection to select from), the chef a delight, the excursions were wonderful and the tour guides had exceptional knowledge. There was plenty of time to enjoy all the sights at the stops as well as just relaxing and cruising on the river. Visiting Normandy was very emotional and we were so glad we got there. We have raved about our cruise to anyone who will listen and are planning on going on another with Viking in two years.

Cabin Review

Cabin 226
We were on the mid-deck and the cabin was fine. We had everything we needed: a very comfortable king size bed, good TV, excellent shower, free WiFi, large closet, and nice desk area. And while not a huge room it was bigger than we expected and there was plenty of room to move around and have your luggage out. The daily maid service was also excellent.

  • City Tour
Nice tour through the city with a stop at the Eiffel Tower for exterior pictures and Notre Dame, where we got a tour of the cathedral and grounds. Very impressive and the tour guide was very good. We drove by sites that would be nice to visit later. The day before the city tour, we did go on our own to the Rodin and Orsay Museums, the Arc de Triomphe, and strolled the Champs d'Elysees. So, anyone going to Paris for the first time, like we were, would really need to stay longer to see more of the city than is possible in the city tour included in the cruise.

  • D-Day Beaches
A long but very good day. We thought the tour guide might have been a history professor he was so well informed. Learned so much. Couldn't believe how beautifully they handled all of us for a lovely lunch in one hour. We saw so much but the most emotional was the American War Cemetery. It is just so hard to imagine what happened on those beaches and so, so many young men perished or were wounded.Physically being there left a much greater impact than just seeing pictures.

  • Eiffel Tower
The city tour with the cruise line had a brief stop at the Eiffel Tower to stroll up to it and take pictures. On the last evening of our cruise, we were docked in Paris within a short walking distance of the Eiffel Tower so we strolled down there in the evening and took the last elevator to the top that night. It's a spectacular sight of the city and well worth the visit.

  • Monet at Giverny Gardens
Beautiful, beautiful gardens and home and lovely village but very, very crowded. Tour guide was very good.

  • Versailles
We took the half day tour. The palace was extremely crowded with other visitors and tours but our tour guide was able to move us through and filled us in on all the pertinent historical information about what we were seeing. It is magnificent but not something I would visit again
