My husband and I just returned from a 7 Day Cruise on Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas. It was a last minute decision to go and this cruise offered a decent itinerary with a great last minute price. We booked it 12 days out but we were still able to get reservations to the ice show as well as a drink package for my husband.

On Sunday, we arrived to the port a bit later than we wanted to. We got to the ship around 3:00 PM EST and we were on board by 3:30. Very easy embarkation process but I am guessing that we were some of the last people on board and the mad house happened earlier in the day. We barely had time to settle in before the ship began to take off. We were right on time! We quickly shut off our wifi and cellular access so as not to be charged by RCCL for accidental usage.

Now, about the most important part...the food. Because we booked our cruise so late in the process, we were assigned our dinner time and seating arrangement. It's not that we are not friendly people but my husband and I like to eat alone together. We have never sat with other people we didn't know during dinner so we opted for the Windjammer the first night. The windjammer had all the usual options. You can eat healthy in there if you really want to but it requires a bit more effort than if you are eating in the dining room. It's a buffet, so of course it does! The food wasn't as good as the food on Independence of the Seas. We were a bit disappointed. Three of the remaining evenings we ate in the dining room. I enjoyed most of the dishes I had tried but my husband did not like the food. It sometimes didn't come out as hot as I would have preferred but it was better than the windjammer to me. The last night we ate at Johnny Rocket's. The fries were fresh, hot and delicious. The burger was overcooked and bland. Service was good, however and very friendly.

Cabin Q

The room was clean but it's definitely showing it's age. The bed was very uncomfortable but the room steward was kind enough to place an egg crate on it for us. We had the beds pushed together but there it a wooden frame around both beds that cause a gap in the middle when the beds are pushed together. It's basically like sleeping on two separate beds anyway because you can't sleep in the center. The bathroom is small and tight with a little storage space in the mirror. We always bring a shoe organizer for the door and place our toiletries in there to save space and keep our room and bathroom clean. The shower pressure will take your skin off but it's adjustable. Plenty of hot water in the shower. The same cannot be said for the sink. The sink pressure stinks and the water never got hot. Plus, the water in the sink sometimes smelled like rotten eggs. The room is very quiet with it's end of the hall location. The only noise we heard was an awful loud banging noise on the 6th night of the cruise. The room steward told us it was because of the rough seas. He said the crew never slept when the seas were rough because that sound always happened. Thank God it was only for one night or I would have been miserable. Nice room and a nice location.
