We had a most disappointing cruise on the Zuiderdam. Firstly we were given Cabin 4034, a balcony which had a solid steel plate from the railing to the floor. Vision from the tired balcony furniture was nil. Next the food was VERY poor and barely warm. I got food poisoning from the shrimp cocktail and/or crab cakes. My husband decided that they couldn't stuff up cooking a steak. Wrong! His medium steak was so rare it bled blood on the plate, but the medium-rare was well-done. The cafeteria was a feeding frenzy, with fingers being poked in the serving trays.The bedding was inadequate - 1 thin sheet, a thin scuffed polar fleece blanket and another thin sheet for a bedspread. I rang for a warm quilt but was told there weren't any but I could have another polar fleece. We slept with our coats over the bed. I sent a letter of complaint to Holland America but hadn't heard from them 6 weeks later. I sent an email and received a standard response.

If you have the chance, do not go on this ship.
