This is the second time taking this cruise. The first time was on the Ruby's sister ship, Crown Princess. These ships carry a little over 3000 passengers and I suspect the Ruby was full. Our flights from home took most of the day and we didn't reach the ship until 11:30pm. Luckily we had another day in Quebec City, which is a lovely city with many sights to see within walking distance of the ship dock. Transfer from the airport to the ship went smoothly and quickly.

The ports were all lovely but we had the bad luck of having cold, rainy and windy weather most of the cruise. That's the chance you take on a cruise. The downside to having bad weather is having the passengers who would normally be out and about sequestered in the ship's public areas. It makes for some very crowded and somewhat uncomfortable venues. We aren't ship board joiners in games and contests so we avoided those events.

A new port for cruise ships, Port Saugenay, was the most enjoyable port of the cruise. Since rebuilding from a serious flood in 1996, the inhabitants have embraced the attempt at bringing cruise ships into their city and made sure we were aware of their gratitude at every turn. It was refreshing. The city is quaint in places and bustling in others and we quite enjoyed our time there.

The room was standard fare with a surprising amount of storage available. Our room steward was friendly and interactive but I noticed unlike previous cruises, sometimes we had to stay out of the room longer to allow him time to refresh the room. This trip we purposely selected a room on the Lido deck, hoping the availability of food didn't increase the cruise weight gain. It didn't. We found it handy to be on the same deck to pick up something quick in either snack or drink form.I detected a definite odor in the bathroom and a slow drain in the shower. Although these things were reported I could never tell that anything had been done about them. The bed was comfortable and the room, although not huge, was plenty of room for the two of us. I would like to see a more comfortable seating option for the one chair in the room. I tend to spend evenings in the room reading and the barrel chair provided is not really comfortable for long term sitting.
