Cabin: Cove Balcony

So I tried a new cruise line, a friend of mine suggested I needed to spread my wings and leave old reliable behind and try something new. New turned out to be the Carnival Breeze. The ship was beautiful, my cabin, a cove balcony was wonderful, I loved being that close to the water. My cabin steward kept my cabin spotless, and I tipped daily, however by the end of the cruise I still couldn’t tell you who he or she was! Yes that seems to be the Carnival way, the majority of the crew could care less that guests were on board. Passing crew I would always say hello, some would say hi back, most just ignored me. I sat at the pool bar by the pizza place, and was never waited on once. My friend said really loud… “don’t you want a drink”? I said sure I do, but that’s not your job to ask as I looked right at the bartender Alexander, who continued to ignore us both so we left.

Our first experience at dinner at the Sapphire dining room was the first time I have ever gotten up and just walked out on dinner, anywhere! Our waiter was taking the covers off plates and putting his nose so close to people’s dinners we thought he’d have gravy up his nose, we couldn’t figure out why he kept doing this. My jerk pork was nicely sliced, even the 2 slices that were nothing but pork fat, not so appetizing. The pork could not be cut by fork and I would have asked for more water and a steak knife to get through this stuff but our waiter never returned. He must have been sniffing dinners in another part of the restaurant. I tried cutting through this stuff with a fork but was worried that I would break the plate in my attempts to get through this piece of shoe leather. Enough was enough, so I tossed my napkin in the middle of the plate and we walked out. A couple days later we tried again and once we found Angela, we were all set, she didn’t miss a beat and remembered us every night as we requested her section, a delightful woman that restored our faith in the main dining room.

The steakhouse was an extra charge restaurant, I was excited to try the fillet mignon just love it on my other cruise line. The appetizers were tasty and the soup was good, but I don’t know what they did to that poor fillet, it was the most tasteless piece of beef carcass I had ever had the displeasure of trying. Absolutely the worst fillet I’ve ever had anywhere in my life, the burgers on the pool deck were far tastier than this hunk of boring flesh, very disappointing. The Italian restaurant on the other hand was quite good, we had dinner there twice, both times we had good service and tasty meals. One thing Carnival does that is kind of sneaky is offer specialty shots after dinner, they talk all about the shot where the liquor came from why it’s special, but never once say hey this is gonna cost you. We tried 2 of the lemon shots at the Italian restaurant and got a 23$ bill for them after the fact, the way they were presented we thought they were part of the experience, silly us!
