We are a senior couple and booked this cruise early this year based on the itinerary: Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Israel. It did not disappoint. We spent a wonderful four days in Rome prior to the cruise staying at the Torre Argentina Relais, a small, well located boutique hotel which we loved. We 'cheaped out' and took the train to Civitivecchia for €11 each. It was on time and very nice. There are a lot of 'helpers' at the Rome Termini train station looking for tips. We only wish they were in Civitivecchia when we determined that getting from the train station to the taxis required that I lug two heavy bags down a flight of stairs and up another -- and my hubby carried two HEAVIER bags the same distance! The taxi fare was only €5 each for four of us and well worth it as they dropped is at the embarkation door.
Embarkation was a bit hectic and there was no special handling of Diamond guests.
The ship itself is beautiful and well maintained. We were given an upgrade to an Aqua cabin prior to our final payment after complaining about price reductions. It was not worth it to me- we did not like Blu for dinner (too slow and few choices), but breakfast there was good and quick. We transferred to the MDR and enjoyed it immensely. There was a good variety and everything arrived promptly and hot. We sat at a large table and when one guest did not like her main course, our waiter quickly supplied an alternative. Our waiter and assistant were outstanding, but the wine stewart strangely MIA once he learned each couple was not buying a bottle a night. The maitre-D invited our table to be part of a group of 12 for a private tour of the galley which was fantastic! The galley is definitely something to be proud of- impeccably clean and a calm, well organized operation. I couldn't help but wonder what it is like during dinner!
Nice room on deck 11. Note there is a very large overhang on deck 11 preventing late morning / early afternoon sun if that is a priority!
