We squeezed in a last minute cruise with our granddaughter (12) prior to her return to school. Since it was last minute we used RCCL for everything including air and transfers. We had a bit of trouble using their choiceair website and ended up booking air fares twice which they quickly remedied. The transfer to the ship took about an hour before we were able to get on a shuttle, but there was an extremely large group just ahead of us. We were pleased with embarkation- it was extremely well organized and quick. However, the long waiting lines to the Windjammer were awful! Once we got to the head of the line at least 30 minutes later, we were assigned a table. In general the choice of foods and the quality were not above adequate on all of our visits for breakfast and lunch. Many times servings areas were very messy or empty especially at 'prime' times. The staff did not assist with drinks, but promptly cleared the table of empty dishes. Announcements constantly encouraged you to vacate your table quickly which was annoying. We ate in the MDR for dinner. We were assigned late dining and waited over an hour to change to early dining. Once a signed a table the Maitre D led us all around the dining room looking for our table! We have never been in a dining room as crowded as this. Getting to and from the table required going around tables and requesting people move or get up. The food selection and service were adequate but far from inspiring. Our head waiter was wonderful and even made up a plate of food for my husband one night when he missed dinner. There is no shortage of things to do on the ship but prepared for long waiting times for more popular experiences: flow rider, zip line, wall climbing. My granddaughter only did these once because it ate up so much time. She has never participated in the children's programs preferring the pool and activities with us. The pool area was very crowded and rife with empty chairs reserved with a book or flip flops. Our first port of call was cancelled due to a forming hurricane and we had an extra sea day. There is no backup for cancelled ports probably due to the size of the ship. Hairspray was wonderful but was the prime entertainment for the first three nights. The ice skating show was phenomenal but the time changed without notifying us and we missed the first half of the show! Later we stood in line for an hour and caught the entire show. Our Aqua show was cancelled due to high winds. The rest of the entertainment was adequate but not as good as we have learned to expect. The Diamond lounge was very clean but inadequate requiring more waits for chairs and service. Even even though the concierge promised to get back with us on a couple requests, he never bothered. We used RCCL for boarding passes and luggage handling and Disembarkation was seamless - we were quickly on a shuttle and our luggage was waiting for us when we returned to our home city. Very nice. In general the ship is a showstopper with many wonderful amenities, but many require extra cost. We are not used to long waiting lines and so-so service in so many areas. The ship seems to be woefully understaffed. We will stick to smaller ships in the future when using RCCL.

Not the best for seasoned cruisers who want amenities!

Cabin Review

Cabin
Our room was clean but the tiniest balcony cabin we have had. Getting around the bed required turning sideways! Our attendant was good. ( I would never book a Boardwalk balcony as the area was stifling hot with no breeze.)
