The ship is very elaborately decorated and the staff are wonderfully well mannered and efficient, and the service and meals in Truffles are fantastic but that is about where the it all ends. The kids club or any of the entertainment is very poorly organised, and with P&O being a sister company you would think Carnival would have taken some clues from their approach to the Australian Traveler. Our Cabin Steward was excellent - always greeted with a smile and our cabin was always immaculate. Our Head waiter in Truffles (Francseka) and her team really impressed up each and every time and never let us down with service. The Buffet set up was very unorganised and confusing and the lunch selection was very limited, always seemed to be casseroles or noodles or rice dishes. Thank Goodness for the Pizzas.
The late notification of the itinerary change was unsettling as we tossed and turned over cancelling up until the last minute. The issue of Civil Unrest in Wala and Santos was the reason, but the fact we encountered Celebrity Century passengers in Noumea and they had been there the preceeding days, we felt we had been mislead. The selection of tours in each port was far less that with P&O, having already been to all the ports. (Wala and Santos were the reason we chose this cruise for a new destination)
We will not be travelling on a Carnival Cruise again, as we feel the P&O Jewel or Dawn are far superior in all things, especially the entertainment side - kids club, shows, deck parties, musicians, all the things that make the memories.
Our cabin was lovely and well positioned on the ship. Very quiet and close to stair and lifts, a bit smaller that P&O, but on the whole it was satisfactory. Our cabing steward was excellent.
