Prior to cruise we spent a week on Oahu and it was great. We then boarded the ship which was old and run down. We had a balcony cabin which was very nice and very spacious. Prior to sailing we hit the buffet and was very disappointed. Staff in the buffet dining area were not friendly and were walking around like zombies. The food was less then average. We went back only once to give it another try and it was the same. We never went back to buffet after that. The main dining was not much better. The staff were at least more friendly but the food was horrible. After several days on board we discovered a small 1950s diner, where the food was very good-breakfast, lunch and dinner.
What makes this cruise worth it is the beautiful Hawaiian Islands and the excursions. The views are breath taking. This is the only cruise ship that sails out of Hawaii so you don't have to travel from the main land for several days at sea. If you cruise to enjoy the ship and don't plan on shore excursions then this ship is not for you. Many of the other NCL ships are much nicer with friendlier crew and much better food and service.
We had a handicap cabin which means our cabin was very, very spacious. The bathroom was immense. For all of you who have cruised you know how small the showers can be. Not this one. Two if not three persons could have fit at the same time.
