This was our first cruise on Carnival Legend and in fairness, having only Celebrity Solstice to compare with, perhaps my impression is very coloured by my two previous cruises. The demographic was vastly different and this became quickly evident.

OVERALL

Apparently millions was spent on this ship to “Aussify” it for its first season in Australia. I honestly couldn’t see where, and the so-called “aussification” was a bit of a fail. Yes they got the coffee right but the flat white/cappuccino from the buffet Beverage stand was at least as good as the paid-for variety from the Café Bar or from Legends Café (both of which seemed poorly frequented). The décor was interesting and in fact one of the comedy acts hit the nail on the head when he suggested they held a competition between 5 designers and when they couldn’t decide on one they decided to just use them all. Someone obviously has a thing for Grecian urns and for the most part the public areas felt like Vegas on steroids, although the lounges with their tasteful artwork did feel restful and provided a respite from the urns! I couldn’t work out if the Firebird Lounge was supposed to be Oriental, Arthurian, or just a Picasso gone horribly wrong. We can all be grateful they didn’t carry all this mish mash of design into the cabins.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin 8C

The cabin itself was better than expected and quite comfortable, but in hindsight we would select midship rather than aft or forward. Housekeeping was abysmal and while the bed was made/turned down daily, no effort whatsoever was made to actually clean.
