Our first time in Europe and with Viking River Cruises. What an experience! Our stateroom was great, but we were barely in our room since we took advantage of the included tours and most of the optional ones. Our guides were of high quality. They knew the subject matter and many were very entertaining too. The tour groups were small enough that we were able to move efficiently around each town. The use of individual headsets for each member of the group was very effective. We could easily hear the tour guides without having to be right next to them. We really appreciated seeing the palaces, castles, and churches. A lot of walking and a few days of rain, but we were prepared thanks to the trip material sent to us in advance. Our cruise director, Klause, was excellent. His daily briefings were very informative. The food was fantastic! The chef and his staff prepared a variety of regional foods that made it hard to choose which dish to pick. We ordered several dishes we may not have normally tried, but we had confidence in our chef and were never disappointed. I can't say enough about our wait staff! They were very efficient and served us as if we were guests at their homes. Just a few days into the cruise they knew our preferences in wine, soft drinks, and water. Even though they were busy we seldom had to wait for anything. We extended our trip by adding two days to the beginning of our trip in Amsterdam. Somehow we left our camera at the Radisson Blue hotel as we were transferring our luggage to the shuttle that took us to our ship. I contacted someone at the counter of the ship as soon as we noticed the camera was gone a few hours later. He contacted the hotel staff, but they offered little help. On advice of an experienced cruise passenger we contacted our Hotel Manager, Guiome, the next day. He started making contacts immediately and worked with Klause on the issue. Klause continued to make calls throughout the rest of the cruise. He kept us informed on a daily basis, but we were unable to recover our camera even though we had several reports that the camera was found and shipped to our next port. We really appreciated Klause's efforts to recover our camera. Even though we lost our camera and two days worth of pictures our cruise was a fantastic experience. We are continually looking at other Viking river cruises and ocean cruises.
