  3. Norwegian Getaway
My family cruised on the NCL Breakaway last October so we were very familiar with the layout of the Getaway. Embarkation was an absolute breeze. We got to the port early and were checked in and on board by 11:30. The ship is absolutely gorgeous and spacious. Even with 4,900 guests there is never a time you feel crowded other than when getting out of shows from the Theater. Our mini suite cabin was perfect for the 4 of us. They was plenty of room for storing clothing between the closet, the shelves, the drawers under the sofa, and the cabinets in the room. All suitecases fit nicely under the bed. The bathroom was fantastic! It had dual sinks and the shower was awesome. The balconies continue to be on the small side but there is plenty of room for several people to sit and enjoy the views. Our room was on the port side, so we were even able to sit on the balcony and enjoy the fireworks show. We only ate at the complimentary restaurants and have no complaints about the food or service. We ate at the Buffet, Tropicana, Savor, Taste, and O'Sheehans. Our food was always good and there was a nice variety each night to choose from on the menu. If you like desserts, the warm chocolate volcano is to die for. The entertainment was nothing short of amazing. The first night we went to the Illusionarium and were completely amazed. They served a meal of surf and turf before the show and it was very good. The magicians, illusionist, and mentalist were incredible. We had floor seating so we were really close to the stage. I watched intently and could never figure out how they did their acts. We also saw The Broadway shows of Burn the Floor and Legally Blonde as well as Levity Comedy group, and Dueling pianos. All of those were excellent. There was so much more to do but we couldn't do everything. The on-deck parties at Spice H2O were also very good. These included: the sailaway party, the 80's party, the Glow Party, etc. One of the highlights of our cruise was the VIBE. If you want to relex in an area that is not as loud or crowded with children, this is the place to go. It is at the front of the ship on deck 16 and is a little piece of heaven. It is an additional fee: $20 a day or $78 for the week but it is well worth the cost. They only sell 70 or so passes so you have to getthere early to purchase them. While up there, the wiaters pamper you with cold wash cloths to cool off, spritz you with a mist, and hand out fruit on a skewer, frozen treats, and smoothies. In addition, there is a full bar and 2 hot tubs. The boys participated in Entourage, which is the program from 13-17 year olds. They had a blast and were busy all day and night. Other than dinner time, we did not see them until 1:00 am. They also enjoyed the water slides, especially the one where the bottom drops out, the ropes course, the zip line, the rock climbing wall, and the sports court. There was plenty of things to keep them busy for the week.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Nassau
We elected not totdake an excursion here since we had been here previously. The last time, we went to Atlantis and enjoyed that. This time we just walked around town and through the Straw Market. We then went back to the ship to enjoy more time in the VIBE.

  • St. Maarten
St. Maarten is absolutely beautiful. We spent our morning and afternoon there on an excursion to Orient Beach. The excursion provided us with a welcome rum drink, lounge chairs by the water, and a nice lunch. The bus ride over totdhe beach took about 30 minutes which left us with about 4 hours on the beach. This is a clothing optional beach sobe aware that someone may walk past you with very little clothing on. The beaches are gorgeous and the water is very blue and clear. Unfortunately, seaweed had come into the Carribean beaches recently so we did have to deal with that. My only complaint was that there were many pan handlers going up and down thebeacg selling shirts, cover ups, jewelry, foot massages, hair braiding, ect.

  • Snorkeling
We took the excusion Shipwreck Sail and Snorkel aboard the Castaway Girl Catameran and had a wonderful time. The crew (Captain Mark, Jen, Joe, Mike, and Ben) could not heve been more attentive and informative. On the boat ride to our snorkeling site, they distributed all snorkleing equipment to everyone and made sure that everyone was hydrated witg water or fruit punch. They also provided information about both St. Thomas and St. Johns. Once at the snorkeling site, we broke into groups and were led around by one of th crew members. We saw several pieces of the shipwreck, red snapper, dory fish, sea eninimi, colletor urchins, and black shiny urchins. On the ride back to the ship, the crew served a snack of pretzels as well as rum punch, fruit juice, water, and sodas. They liquids were free flowing not like on some excursions where you only get 1 drink.
